The operations, wars and campaigns of the Deathwatch result not only in the shedding of xenos blood. Every watch fortress learns about the frailties of alien species both during and after eradicating their presence. This knowledge is put to work in refining the Deathwatch's weapons to ensure the efficient death of future xenoforms. While technological innovation in the Imperium is a heresy punishable by the Tech-Priests of Mars, it is not forbidden to the Deathwatch. Their need to adapt to emergent threats is often too great to hinder.

The armouries, arsenals and asset vaults of the Deathwatch are filled with weapons that far exceed any watch fortress' capacity to field at once. This allows every force, no matter its size, to be fully equipped to face any foe. When a mission is prepared, its warriors are subliminally inloaded with the potential threats, and each battle-brother selects their tools.

Although skilled in the application of almost all the Deathwatch's tools, some combatants still opt for familiar weapons with which they killed for their former Chapter. Recognisable firearms such as the sacred boltgun are raised to higher lethality by the use of special-issue ammunition. Reservoirs of mutagenic acid keyed to genetic markers line handcrafted Hellfire shells. The surfaces of metal storm bolts are ritually incised so as to shatter in razor-sharp fragments, while the explosive centres of vengeance rounds are empowered with plasma cores. Improvements to ammunition deadliness rely on biosamples recovered during dangerous missions. Development is often overseen by Apothecaries, who employ their chirurgical insights to ensure maximum biological damage. When directed, a battle-brother will restrain his natural instincts, crippling rather than killing his target in order to obtain living samples. Faceless med-thralls test xenos pain thresholds, stimuli responses and flesh integrity until these creatures tolerances are identified and exceeded.

The Deathwatch use many weapons that are practically unheard of outside their watch fortresses. Combi-weapons such as the infernus heavy bolter and starfire gatling cannon combine weapons with complementary ranges, optimised for the kind of threat encountered at each. These, and far more specialised weapons, often owe their existence to recommendations within the after-action strategy reports of Deathwatch warriors.

Specially vetted Tech-Priests from the Adeptus Mechanicus — sworn to secrecy and regularly hypnotrawled for indiscretion — craft many of the Chapter's weapons, yet even they do not know of every hidden artefact. Carapace-shredding shotgun shells known as xenopurges and grenades containing vials of chemically altered promethium nestle on monolithic racks alongside stranger materiel. Ammunition canisters of phasic plasma and amplifiers that saturate gray-fields with warped ions are among those that jealous Tech-Priests suspect owe their genesis to less than Human sources. The molecular realignment fields of xenophase blades in particular arouse dangerously acquisitive interest amongst the radical Xenarite cult of Tech-Priests.

Depending upon the species of xenos a watch fortress commonly confronts, many specialist weapons may only rarely see battle. The watch fortress of Praefex Venatoris developed magnatronic cryoshells for use against the Rhorkasa. The semi-corporeal spirit-leeches have not been seen in over a millennium, and successive Watch Masters are assured of their annihilation. Yet, though the cryoshells are of limited practical use against other species, Praefex Venatoris still maintain large stores of them.

The technology employed by the Deathwatch is not limited to those that kill directly. Specialist bio-augurs and inframag detectors enable them to track xenos that rely upon concealment. Techmarines adapt archeotech to disrupt and critically damage alien mechanisms, from solid Ork engines to Aeldari psychomaterials, and even the despised machine sentiences of the T'au. The clavis, presented to a Watch Master as symbolising the key to Humanity's domain, is a wrist-worn repository of machine spirits from the Dark Age of Technology. Unleashed, these spirits are another lethal tool, as eager to ravage alien mechanisms as the Watch Master's warriors are to kill the xenos crew.
