holding hands

staring at the doors

my sibling and I were waiting for my mother that day

cancer surgery

start sobbing

immediately

make arrangements

sb's dying wish was to be buried back home in Korea

barely 12 year old

shock being off

ringing in my ears

Argentina

spanish

make our living

upon arrival

immigrant

lost everything

rebuild lives

ponder

not obvious

this episode launched a lifelong quest for my identity

be born in

raised

educated

addicted

feel pretty much Argentinien

betrayed

tutor

otherwise

fluent

zero-sum game

give up

earn

gain a new one

turn out

a pivotal realization to me

how many blabla do you think are out there?

perhaps this could be an advantage

it would be easy for me to stand out

which couldn't hurt in a world that was rapidly changing, and where skills could be obsolete overnight

look for that commonality

embrace

reinvent

confess

mega-nerd

I don't know if i could take too much credit on that

the odds are good, but the goods are odd.“The odds are good, but the goods are odd.”通俗点解释就是,硅谷的单身男士确实很多,但是很多在性格上却“奇奇怪怪”的。

A women in tech

obscure

basement

drop out

a secret weapon

the average income

skewed

permutation

cultivating diversity

culture shocks

just in case that

sb who will have a hard times growing a beard when they become older

we will have to work on that

multiplicity

commonality

a world increasingly global today

irrelevant

take control of their personal narrative and identity

alienate

and most importantly

going through these uncharted territories

find tremendous joy in

as for my grandmother

turn out it's never about going back in Korea, it's about resting next to her son, who had died long before she moved to Argentina

what mattered to her, was not the ocean which divided her past and the new world, it's about finding common ground

多元文化成长起来的我不再寻求同某一种文化的归属,我坦然地拥抱我的多元文化背景,把它当作人生的财富。
