1.Acute Myeloid Leukemia. In article number 2105811, Yang Yang, Ye Chen, and co-workers report that acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells educate regular mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) towards an adipogenic differentiation propensity with leukemia promotion capabilities. The fish's gradient colors symbolize the influence of the leukemia cells (in black) and hematopoietic stem cells (in red) on their respective surrounding microenvironments.

2.Acoustofluidic Stimulation of Functional Immune Cells. In article number 2105809, Jinsoo Park, Hyung Jin Sung, Jessie S. Jeon, and co-workers employ surface acoustic waves to agitate fluid in a microreactor capable of dynamic cell culture in a controllable and contact-free manner. This microreactor prevents cellular damages that can be seen in the acoustic vortex by adjusting the duty cycle and applied power of the acoustical actuation. Using the microreactor, the functional changes of natural killer cells are observed upon the acoustical stimulation, namely, Ca2+ influx to the cells and their enhanced cell-mediated cytotoxicity to the tumor cells in the copresence of protein kinase C activator.

3.Localized Scleroderma Therapy. Human-induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived epithelial and mesenchymal (EM) organoids can be used to investigate the therapeutic potential for the recovery of localized scleroderma (LoS) associated phenotypes and skin-associated functions. In article number 2106075, Wu Zhong, Shuyang Zhang, Ling Leng, and co-workers, establish an experimental EM organoid model from hiPSC to significantly reduce the degree of skin fibrosis and inflammation. Most importantly, it promotes the regeneration of epidermis and their appendages, providing a new therapeutic alternative for patients suffering from disfigurement and skin function defects caused by LoS.

4.New Strategy for the Prevention of Gastric Cancer. Bile reflux can promote gastric carcinogenesis through activation of the IL-6/JAK1-STAT3 signaling pathway. Inhibition of STAT3 by cryptotanshinone can alleviate this carcinogenic effect, thus providing a new strategy for the prevention of gastric cancer associated with bile reflux.
