一、多使用专业、固定、简单的词汇，多缩略词。

固定词汇是指比较通用的词汇，一般是大纲性词汇，具有相对稳定性，比如规格（Specification）、包装（Packaging）、警告（Warnings）等。专业词汇是指各行业中特有的常使用的具体词汇。

在每个特定的领域内都有其通用的缩略词，比如如单位简写，赫兹采用Hz，千瓦特采用kW；专业术语（HD、DCV、OTC、qd）。如果这些缩略词是大众熟知的，那就没必要把全称翻译出来。如果对用户来说是陌生的，那就必须要把全称翻译出来。

产品说明书在指示说明部分频繁使用祈使句，而且大多省略主语。因为祈使句常用来表示强调、命令、警告，直截了当、简洁有力。英文说明书中祈使句常包含情态动词（may、should、shouldn’t等）、Do not、Never（do）等。中文说明书中则常使用切记、一定、必须、务必、禁止、不得、切勿、不能等词。请看以下示例：

Do not move the charger or touch the battery during charging. Failure to observe this precaution could in very rare instances result in the charger showing that charging is complete when the battery is only partially charged. 产品说明书注重言简意赅，通俗易懂，因此中英文说明书中的句子多数是简单句，也有少部分复合句，但也不会超过三个以上从属句。英文说明书经常采用非谓语动词形式（动名词、现在分词、过去分词和不定式），请看以下示例：

To use vibration reduction, slide the VR switch to ON. Vibration reduction is activated when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, reducing the effects of camera shake on the image in the viewfinder and simplifying the process of framing the subject and focusing in both autofocus and manual focus modes.（Nikon D7000数码相机英文说明书片段）

三、语态上，中文说明书多用主动句，英文说明书兼用主动与被动句。

中文说明书在语态上一般采用主动语态，通常会省略“您”。而英文说明书在不同板块内容中语态侧重点也不同。较长、较复杂的介绍、指导性文字多用被动语态，较短的指导内容、警告或注意事项文字一般以主动语态为主，被动为辅。请看以下示例：

The lithium ion battery in your iPhone should be serviced or recycled by Apple or an authorized service provider, and must be recycled or disposed of separately from household waste.（iPhone手机英文说明）

Connect the AC power cable or wall adapter.

四、时态上，多使用一般现在时。

产品说明书是客观介绍性文字材料，介绍内容真实客观，没有时间上的使用差别，因此说明书多采用一般现在时态。
