《The head of the Bundesbank resigns; Republicans block voting reform, again》
The head of the Bundesbank, Jens Weidmann, is to step down early after more than ten years in the post. He cited personal reasons for his decision to leave by the year’s end. One of the most hawkish policy-makers at the ECB, he was an unrelenting critic of the bank’s pandemic-inspired easy monetary policy, which he warned would have serious inflationary consequences.
德国央行行长延斯·魏德曼(Jens Weidmann)将在任职十多年后提前卸任。他决定在年底前辞职，理由是个人原因。作为欧洲央行最强硬的政策制定者之一，他一直强烈批评欧洲央行的宽松货币政策。他警告说，宽松货币政策可能会导致严重的通胀后果。

Netflix employees staged a virtual walkout over the streaming giant’s handling of comedian Dave Chappelle’s latest special, which some consider to be anti-trans. Staff have demanded that Netflix support more trans creators, among other requests, to make up for its alleged misstep. Reed Hastings, the co-chief executive, said “we are on the right side, but only time will tell.”

walkout 本义 是 walk out（走出去），意思就是“（抗议）退场、罢工”，通常搭配动词 是 stage/ have，例句：Senior union workers staged (= had) a walkout this afternoon at the annual conference over the proposed changes in funding.在今天下午讨论拟议的专款变动事宜的年度大会上，工会的高层人员退场以示抗议。
over 跟的是抗议的原因，出于……原因。

The UN said that countries’ plans to extract fossil fuels are “dangerously” out of line with the reductions needed to prevent serious global warming over the next decade. Coal, gas and oil production rates are more than double the rate that would keep the rise in global temperatures within 1.5°C. The stark report comes weeks before UN’s climate-change conference, COP26, in Glasgow.

Amherst College, a private liberal-arts university in Massachusetts, decided to end its legacy admissions, which give preferential treatment to academically-qualified children of alumni. The school’s dean of admissions said it was “a natural extension” to efforts to diversify its student body. It is one of a handful of private universities in America to abolish a policy that is lucrative but hard to justify.

alumni 校友。alumnus 就是“一个校友”的意思，通常尤其指的是一个男校友，当然也可以指女校友，复数“校友” 就是 alumni，这个词就并没有区分男校友还是女校友。alumna （一个女校友），复数加e，也就是说 “一些女校友”是 alumnae。grad 是主要是北美的“校友；毕业生”非正式说法。
hard to justify 没法说公正还是不公正，justify 动词的名词形式是：justification。
