刚才看高级英语中The libido for the ugly第一段，积累几个看起来“有点厉害”的词。

1 “沦落为” “陷入”某种不好的境地，我们可以说 be reduced to， 对，就是reduce这个词，这里不再是减少的意思啦~

举个栗子 

• They were reduced to extreme poverty...

  他们陷入极端贫困的状态。

• They wanted the army reduced to a police force.

  他们想把这支队伍降级为一支警察部队。

2 形容“丑” 我们除了说 ugly, 还可以掌握一个同义替换词 “hideous”,表示奇丑无比的，程度比ugly还要重一些。

• She saw a hideous face at the window and screamed.

  她在窗口看到了一张极丑陋的脸，吓得尖叫了起来。

3 形容一个地方荒凉，荒芜，没啥人，可以用 desolate=bleak= forlorn

• it's a desolate place   荒废之地

• The island's pretty bleak. 这座岛屿一片荒凉。

• Empty houses quickly take on a forlorn look. 空无一人的房屋很快就显得凄凉。
