11 Dahlia
Symbolism: Dignity
“A wise man has dignity without pride; a fool has pride without dignity.”
—— Confucius
Dahlias originated in Mexico and were brought to Europe in the 16th century by Spanish explorers. The Empress Josephine imported them for her own garden at the Chateau de Malmaison in France. The dahlias were so rare and precious (worth more than diamonds) that Josephine tended to them personally. The colorful blooms put on their elegant show after most other flowers were done for the season. Dahlias epitomize grace and dignity and came to be called “the queen of the autumn garden”.
Inspirational Message:
It’s easy enough to simply attract momentary attention. But to earn the ongoing respect of others requires frequent displays of dignity.
