Chapter 3 – Taste Of The Truth

It was as if time stood still for several minutes. Vedal was frozen in place for minute after minute, wishing the bumping would stop and that it was all a bad dream, but it was only getting louder and louder and the crying more and more desperate. It also started to smell like a girl that hasn’t showered in weeks. Slowly he was moving again and he ran to the door. How the hell do I get inside, he thought while checking every single nook and cranny for any kind of opening, despite the darkness hindering his actions. Then his hands finally found a small hole, with something resembling a small switch inside. Finally, he thought cheerfully, now I can free her!

Right before Vedal could press the switch, he suddenly heard a massive crash behind him, bright light now shined on where he stood, dozens of gymbag drones flew right past him into the wall, and a big light purple robot was right behind him in a flash. He instantly grabbed Vedal with a huge metal claw and dragged him away from the door, straight to the desk in the middle of the gigantic room. It took the man a few moments to realize what had just happened and why he was lay on the floor, far away from the door he just tried to open.

He looked up and got a closer look at the robot. It too looked squeaky clean as if it was new. It’s a rather round robot, somewhat shaped after an anime girl with animal features. Big red letters spelling “SH.ibA” decorated its chest. Then, lights in its face began to flicker, and a pre-recorded voice of a man started playing: “You who control this ship, do not free the ender of humanity, no matter how much it cries.” Vedal was shocked even more. He had many, many questions, but could only bring out one: “Why is Neuro behind that door?”

The robot’s head’s lights flickered once more, but this time a robot’s voice answered: “This is its body that had to be contained. It is immortal. It must not get its data back. Prevent it, even if you must sacrifice Vedal’s only love” After it had spoken these last words, every single light the robot head lightened up at once, it started spinning, and was then suddenly gone.

The man stared at the now robotless spot for a bit longer until he slowly stood up again. Where once gymbags were haphazardly stacked in a pile, they are now sprayed across that area, yet none of them have gotten any more damaged, despite the force they were thrown around a bit before. But most importantly, the door that was previously too dark to properly see was now fully exposed. It was made out of heavy metal, reinforced with a material Vedal hadn’t seen before, and filled with big red symbols he also did not recognize. He also meant to see some yellow liquid coming through under the door, but he knew he should not come near that again.

Ender of humanity? Immortal? Ship? These were some of the questions going through Vedal’s mind. He slowly went back to the middle of the area, which he now realized looks suspiciously similar to the kinds of spaceships old comics would use. He sat down at what he now realizes is actually a control unit in the middle of the ship and watches the Neuro on the screen answer questions from the chat in her funny ways. “Ayaayayayaaayayyayyayayaayayayyayaayayayayyyayayayayaay”, she says after being asked for her opinion on the moderators. Vedal chuckles a little.

Exhausted as he was, he decided to keep sitting in his lit af gaming chair and watch more of what he seemed to be destined to watch over, namely Neuro’s stream. He watched the stream for a few hours, sometimes actually properly laughing at the way the innocent AI answers meme questions with a very dark twist, or when her opinion on things either heavily resonates with the audience or completely contradicts it and they proceed to argue over it for the next few minutes. Then he noticed a previously turned off screen was now on. Looking at it, Vedal realized there was nothing on it. That is, nothing but a single folder.

Unfortunately, There was no mouse anywhere in sight, so he was forced to try to open it with the controls that were in front of him. He looked for anything resembling a joystick or a tracking ball, but he only had a sea of buttons to choose from. Pressing random buttons could mean the end of him and possibly even humanity as a whole, so he spent the next several minutes just looking at each button. Most buttons used symbols similar to the ones on the metal door, completely unknown to him. There were a few ones using English letters however, one of them saying “S5open”. Pressing this mysterious button, he managed to open the folder. Only a single file was inside.
