私自外出是小胖威利患者在生活中一种可怕而危险的行为。一些细小机会和自身强烈的好奇心都有可能造成这种情况，他们的动机通常是为了寻找食物或者躲开大人，以逃避日常生活中受到的限制。

通知当地执法部门是非常重要的，因为如果孩子从商店偷窃或闯入别人家中获取食物，可能会出现危险。如果父母被误解为疏忽大意，这将会是让他们最难过的。

最糟糕的情况当然是由于对目标的专注而导致迷失方向或对陌生人的不适当信任而导致的严重伤害或死亡。

孩子的父母在家里需要时刻保持警惕，通常需要锁上窗户和开启警报系统，外出时更需要提高警惕。

PWS AND ELOPEMENT

Elopement (running away) is a scary and dangerous aspect of life with PWS.  Because of opportunity or curiosity, elopement is generally motivated by the search for food or for older people, to escape the sense of restriction in their ever day life.

It is important to inform local law enforcement of the situation as difficulties can arise if the person is found stealing from stores or breaking into homes to access food.  It can also be devastating if parents are seen to be neglectful.

The worst situation of course is the resulting serious injury or death through lack of road sense or inappropriate trust of strangers because of a preoccupation with the goal.

Parents of children/adults who elope need to be constantly alert at home, often requiring locks on windows and alarm systems, and need to be even more vigilant when out.
