我国西部内陆地区天然气储备丰富、东部沿海地区严重匮乏。为了维持数千万东部沿海地区的家庭和工厂正常生活与运转，国家在人们看不见的地方，建造了8.7万千米长的干线管道，将塔里木盆地的天然气源源不断地输送到全国各地，这就是西气东输工程（The West-to-East Gas Transmission Project）。西气东输工程是国家西部大开发（The Development of the Western Regions ）的标志性工程，西起塔里木盆地，东至上海，是我国距离最长、口径（bore）最大的输气管道。作为一条能源大动脉，它为能源紧缺的东部发达地区送去源源不断的“血液”。全线采用自动化控制，供气范围覆盖中原、华东、长江三角洲地区。自2004年全线投入商业运营以来，西气东输已经成为带动东西及沿线经济发展、优化能源结构的纽带。实施西气东输工程，有利于促进我国能源结构和产业结构调整，为西部地区的资源优势变为经济优势创造了条件，对推动和加快西部经济发展具有重大的战略意义。西气东输与西电东送、南水北调并称为中国三大国家重点建设工程。

As an artery of energy transmission, WEGT is delivering non-stoppingly "blood" to the highly-developed but energy-starving East China regions. Automated monitoring and control is utilized throughout the full WEGT process, with natural gas transmission covering the Central Plain, East China and the Changjiang River Delta regions. Since it was put to commercial use in 2004, WEGT has become an important link leading the development of economy and optimization of energy structure in and along regions in West and East China. The implementation of WEGT is of great benefits to the adjustment of our country's structure on energy and industries, making a hotbed for transforming advantages of resources in the West China regions into advantages in economy and is of great strategic significance to boosting economic growth in West China regions. Projects of WEGT, the West-to-East Electricity Transmission and the South-to-East Water Diversion are collectively named as The Three National Major Construction Projects of China.

水是生命之源、生产之要、生态之基，是人类社会生存发展之本，可以说水是人类赖以生存和发展的重要资源，没有水就没有文明的进步。2023年3月22日是第三十一届“世界水日”，联合国确定2023年“世界水日”主题为“加速变革”（Accelerating Change）。
我国2023年“世界水日”,暨第36个“中国水周”的活动主题为“强化依法治水携手共护母亲河”。因此，从现在做起，从自身做起，彻底杜绝长流水、浪费水的现象，人人养成惜水、爱水、节约水资源的良好习惯，把节约用水意识提高到新的高度，人人争当节约用水的模范。宣传节水洁水理念，传播节水经验知识；倡导节水惜水行为，营造节水护水风尚。志愿参与节水活动，制止用水不良现象；发现浪费水行为，及时劝阻。让节水成为一种责任。
