【中英文稿】一分钟英文演讲：Long-lasting happiness

You must feel the fear and do it anyway. 

你必须感觉到恐惧，无论如何都要去做。

 

Bravery is not the absence of fear. Bravery is feeling the fear, the doubt, the insecurity, and deciding that something else is more important. 

勇敢不是没有恐惧。勇敢就是感受到恐惧、怀疑、不安，并依然决定其他事情更重要。

 

If we identify with our moment-to-moment emotional states and sensitivities, our happiness will surge and crash like a deregulated Wall Street derivatives orgy. For those of you who don’t know anything about Wall Street: that’s really bad. We want sturdy, resilient happiness, not derivatives orgies. 

一旦我们当下的情绪状态和敏感度产生认同，我们的幸福感就会迅速激增和衰退，就像放松管制后狂热的华尔街金融衍生品一样暴涨暴跌。这个比喻对于那些对华尔街一无所知的人来说：那真的很糟糕。我们想要的是坚实的、有弹性的幸福，而不是像狂热的金融衍生品。 

 

True, long-lasting, kid-tested-and-mother-approved happiness, is not derived from our immediate emotional states — being constantly greedy is not only impossible but it would be unbearably annoying, but rather is derived from the deeper values we define for ourselves. 

真正的、持久的、经过孩子考验和母亲认可的幸福，并不是来自于我们即时的情绪状态—因为不断地贪婪不仅不可能，而且会让人无法忍受，这样的幸福是来自于我们为自己定义的更深层次的价值观。

 

Our ultimate life satisfaction is not defined by what we do and what happens to us, but why we do what we do and why it happens to us. 

我们最终的生活满意度并不是由我们所做的和发生在我们身上的事情来定义的，而是取决于我们为什么而做以及为什么会发生在我们身上。
