Éduquer / educate
法语的“éduquer”和英语的“educate”都可以译为中文的“教育”，在很多情况下，两个词都是“真朋友”，可以互译，例如：
Il appartient aux parents et aux enseignants d’éduquer les enfants dans un esprit d’ouverture sur le monde et aux autres.
It is the task of parents and teachers to educate children to be aware of the world around them and the needs of others.
教导儿童关心身边的世界和他人的需求，这是家长和老师的责任。
但法语的“éduquer”还有“养育，培养（儿童），训练（动物）”（élever）的意思，常译为英文的“bring up，train”等词。

L'instituteur instruit l'enfant, mais ce sont ses parents qui l'éduquent.
Teachers educate children, while parents are responsible for their upbringing.
老师负责讲授知识，而家长则要养育和调教孩子。

注意：如果有人说你“bien éduqué(e)”，那是夸你有教养，懂礼貌，风度翩翩，很绅士淑女的样子。(是你父母教子有方啦！（^v^）
bien éduqué = well-mannered, well brought up
相反，如果有人说你“mal éduqué”（或者“manquer d’éducation”），他不是说你“没受过（良好）教育”，而是说你“没教养”（impolite, ill-mannered）!
mal éduqué = ill-mannered
"你这个没教养的熊孩子! 你父母怎么教你的？" (要打架吧？^v^）
而英语的“educate”还有“上学，接受学校教育”（instruire, former）的意思。说一个人是“well-educated”，是说他“受过良好教育”——上过名校，有知识，技能，素质高（instruit, cultivé），例如：
He was educated at a famous public school.
Il a fait ses études dans une école privée très réputée.
他是在一所著名的私立学校受的教育。
（英国的 public school 是私立的寄宿制贵族学校，e.g. 伊顿公学）

法语的“éduquer”侧重于家庭教育，注重的是礼仪，风度，而英语的“educate”一词则更侧重于学校教育，强调的是知识，技能。
