Phycocyanobilin 是一种蓝色藻胆素，仅存在于藻胆蛋白别藻蓝蛋白和藻蓝蛋白中，它是能量的末端受体。Phycocyanobilin 可与 HSA 结合，增加其热稳定性并防止其他蛋白质的蛋白水解活性。藻蓝胆素 已显示可抑制氧化应激。 藻蓝胆素也称为PCB. Phycocyanobilin 可用作A53T α-突触核蛋白的活性抑制剂。
