It's not really a men vs women thing specifically. People just prefer to watch the best of the best play and everything else seems watered down and less compelling. Women's sports unfortunately just equate to a minor league to most people.

Tennis is also a really unique example, because just like the Olympics, it's on at the same time as the men's sports, which allows them to piggyback off the men's ratings. It's not a coincidence, it's not like women's tennis is a relatively higher quality product compared to the men's game than women's basketball/hockey/softball/etc all are.
A lot of the women's tennis I watch is because I'm waiting in between men's matches, because they play at the same locations at the same time (generally).

That's the reason people don't want to watch women's sports as much, imo. Most people want to watch people who are competing at the top level of their sport, and the fact of the matter is that almost all the top athletes in any given sport are men. The whole reason we have women's sports is to give women the ability to be competitive.
