 20 Lesson 4 - Classic VisDev Painting Part 3 - VidDev Demo - PT1

P20 - 00:00演示。 

 So just like your homework from two weeks ago, from lesson two, which was to choose between little red riding hood and Cinderella, I'm gonna do the exact same with you and I'm going to choose little red riding hood, we’re going to stray a little away from black and white value some stuff and just talk about how to start a piece. 如同前两周的家庭作业一样,我们选择小红帽来演示,今天黑白阈值一笔带过,这需要成熟的思维。Not a study, but a full fledged piece. Here it is, guys. We're getting started to talk about the secret sauce. And the first piece of sauce is that artists aren't robots.

We can't just conjure up a piece like magic. We need to be inspired and need creative fruit to be able to make any creative juice. So the first step is always reference gathering.我们不能像是魔术一样凭空捏造,而是需要有启发的有创意的。

to start the entire process of I always first go to either Google images or Pinterest or any photo browser of your choice. And I think to myself where would I want the setting of my piece to be? 我可以选择各种照片分享浏览网络,可以是谷歌可以是缤趣,自己对自己说我想如何排列组合这些素材中可用元素。Well, I really. I want to do a painting of little red riding hood setting off from her house and getting ready to go visit her grandma.我想绘制小红帽骑上马从自家房子出发看奶奶,

That's the same guy I start to choose. when I think of little red riding hood, I think of the sprawling lush hills. And since it was recorded by the brothers grimm, it's a very classically eurocentric fairytale. We can totally change the setting. But I do love the idea of a western style pasta, almost like an idea like hobby town or something. 因为是格恩兄弟录制的,小红帽场景中郁郁葱葱群山。是经典的欧洲文化背景的寓言故事。我们可以改变设置,但是我真的喜欢这种西式风格,就像是我们熟悉的爱好。 

P20 - 01:31展示整个过程。 

So now I'm just going to show you my entire process. And I start by grabbing a bunch of images that I really enjoy that match what I'm thinking. 现在我列举出一系列给到我灵感的元素以及来源。

So for example, if anyone needs to know real quick, this is a program known as PureRef. And super quick. Let me just pull it up for you right here. PureRef. So this is completely Free. And I totally recommend it. If you have never tried it before, it's a great place to keep all of your reference into one location.这个名为“PureRef”软件协助你把所有参考资料都放在一个展板上。 So I really want to be asked accurate as possible with the clothing of the time. Therefore, I actually pulled up old photographs of children during the industrial revolution. Now unfortunately, these photographs come from a dark history because during the 18 hundreds, children were often used as slave workers essentially, basically unpaid child labor, which is a very bad not a good thing. This is why we have laws to protect against this. 这些历史照片是描述的当年童工充当免费劳动力,并不好。所以现代有法律保护不能雇佣童工。Now. But these photographs offer me a fantastic look into the outfits that the children were back then. 但是那个年代儿童套装蛮漂亮的,可以拿来参考。

Now traditionally definition of little red riding hood has always been like this cute little girl in this cute little red dress. But I wanna do that. So instead I want to do a kind of industrial revolution boy instead of a kid who is from this time era, essentially, 传统上穿红衣服可爱风格女孩。我不想做这种风格。我想要工业革命背景下孩子服饰的风格。since everybody draws cute little red spirits. And I am very tired of that cliche.So these images are specifically more towards on the boys side of what boys would wear during the industrial revolution. 我不希望所有人笔下的小红帽都是可爱型的,不太想沦入俗套。所以我选的参考都是那个年代男孩穿着什么样的。 Reference reference. Reference never can have too much reference. 

P20 - 03:03一开始的场景? 

initially inside of a basket. I'm going to give him actually a little goat to be his companion, just because even though he lives during that time, I don't want him to be living in the city. I still want him to be living kind of more towards the outskirts and a cute little quaint village like scenario. 我想绘制的角色不生活在郊区,而是在古老的村庄。 

P20 - 03:20PS画布第一步骤。 

And the first thing I'm gonna do is sketch up my little red so that I know what he's gonna look like. When I start my painting. This is completely optional. But for someone like me, I prefer to design as much as possible. I just think it's really fun. 对别人来说可能临摹重要,对我而言我喜欢创新设计。So when I was designing little red I thought to myself I don't really want to give him a stereotypical ready Kate. Let's give them a small apron instead. Kind of like similar to what these boys are wearing in the reference image. I also gave him one of those classic hats, the page boy hat. And just to emphasize that he's kind of living more towards the outskirts. I gave him a cloth sash tie his apron together and his apron and hat would be the red aspects.我绘制的男孩帽子代表乡下的风格,布腰带扎紧围裙,帽子和围裙是红色的。 And as I'm drawing you see that there are parts of his design that I added on that I took away. Because I want is designed to be more simplified. If it's too cluttered and too messy, then he doesn't feel like an adventure than a small boy who is just going to go deliver some food to his grandma. 有的设计我加入了然后移除掉了,为了简化。否则太负责的服饰,并不符合冒险去给奶奶家送东西的情节。simplicity I feel like it's key for a character like this. And just like that, the character is done fast, simple, easy. And i'll be able to use this as a reference for my painting. All right,

super quick. pop quiz. Since this is a painting meant for animation, potentially a feature. So it's gonna be like a movie screen. And you are correct. today I'll settle for a size of 1.85 and just start sketching my ideas. And you're gonna come along with me for the journey. 答案是1.85或者2.39比率。今天我用1.85大小来构图。 

P20 - 04:56笔刷问题。 

First of all, because everybody has the exact question every single time, what brush do you use? All right, let me tell you the secret sauce. So this is the ink set by Kyle t Webster, which is Free for anyone who uses Adobe and has Adobe the license. And it's not pirating it. I see some of you out there. But if you do have it, if you do have an Adobe account and you're subscribed, and Kyle has a wonderful ink set, 首先如果你注册Adobe账户,有通行证,可以免费供应的,正版的,都是可以享用这套Kyle t Webster研发的笔刷套装的。and I'm literally just using the one called the letter. Nice line and also the brush one for all of my sketching at the moment. 我用的字符,良好的线条就是我现在主要用的。So i've got my little red right here. Just chill and hang out so that I can keep him in the back of my mind. I think about okay, I want him to be setting off on the start of his journey.  

P20 - 05:41构图中桥的参考。 

I look at my references and I think all these little bridges are just so cute. I really want him to be walking on this bridge and saying kind of like goodbye to his grandma or just like going forward with this little goat off into the woods to go see his grandma and deliver some food. 比如这桥梁上,小红帽在桥梁给外婆说再见,或羊带着小红帽穿过树林去给外婆送吃的。And I wanted to be in this beautiful mountain view with some clouds coming through perhaps in grass the little lake. So I'm looking at these references and these are the ones that are giving me the inspiration. 所以我想采用乌云遮蔽的山丘,或者草和湖泊。这些参考给了我很多启发。So I go in I just sketch I think about really quickly just like roughly what kind of image I should have in my mind. 于是我开始在脑海中勾勒了,我想要什么样的图像。So I first think about what I kind of want a I want a low camera angles here in discussion my bridge, it doesn't need to be good. Okay? I promise. does not need to look good at this moment.开始低角度的镜头为了展示桥面。此时草图没必要讲究多精致。 I think about I want it to be a high angle because I want the viewer to have to look up. 高角度镜头,让角色仰视的感觉。So it's kind of like a moment of wonder. And it's gonna be like a really hopeful scene. So as you can tell, my sketching is kind of awful like what exactly is happening. But that's completely okay. That's just how things go. 素描看起来不忍直视,但是可以勾勒明白。And I think about I want some rocks here. I want my little red right here and I want to go to be right here. So let's go to looks more like a double alpaca. But regardless I got my little water, my string here have some more rocks and this will be by foregrounds.比如这里是演示,溪流,小红帽相对位置。 

P20 - 07:11这是前景。 

So I'm gonna have this area be fore-ground. So it's gonna touch in and it's going to be borne towards mid ground.这是前景接近中场,And then this will be a background and they'll be climbing some mountains going on. 背景各种群山。And this is literally the level of sketching I do. I will never show this one art director. But this is what goes through my mind. What can I say? art gonna come from somewhere. 但是这并不是交给艺术总监的,是记录头脑灵感的。 

P20 - 07:34合成。 

Now is the time to think more about composition. I want this scene to be a arrival shot because the characters are so much smaller. So it showcases a lot more environment. This is also to make sure that in my demonstration I can show more of the things that you might potentially run into. Since arrival shots are so much more environment focused on heavy. 这是抵达场景,角色相对广袤无垠环境显得渺小。展示出很多微环境,尽可能多的展示。 

P20 - 07:51但这是低视角镜头。 

But because I'm using a low angle, so that I can really show off the character in the bridge, horizon line, so it's a little bit more towards like somewhere here, which is a little bit a typical for an arrival shot. The line that I want my characters to be at, it's gonna be kind of more towards here. 低角度,天际线三分,符合抵达场景。 

P20 - 08:12三分工具。 

And I'm just gonna use the crop tool. So this is my favorite hack. So if you just click the crop right here and you just tap the side and you'll get this grid that is literally the rule of thirds and it's right there done for you. And I just think to myself mentally, Okay, this is the intersection right here, which means that I'm gonna want to put my little red right there. 用裁剪工具,可以出现三分网格。 

P20 - 08:38角色在三分线位置。 

And I'm going to scoop him ever so slightly higher to make it feel as if the audience is really looking upwards into the sky. Now I'm just gonna go ahead and refined this sketch a bit because this is truly horrendous to look at, 看起来惊人的乱了。开始精调构线。 

P20 - 08:49开始精细微调。 

as I go through to refine it. I'm really just doodling here and there and everywhere, adding shadows, adding line weights so that if someone actually looked at this piece, they would understand what is going on.比如增加阴影,线宽,让看到线稿的一目了然。 The original sketch that I did was just so that I could have an idea for myself. And now I'm really trying to make the piece happen.第一版草稿记录灵感跟大脑对话。 现在是让灵感画面打印到纸面,让别人看清楚。So everything is gonna be a bit more precise. Obviously. i'd like to pull up my references and I will also sketch for every sketch because this is the backbone and skeleton of your piece.我喜欢对着我的参考图把人事物画对。The composition right now is being decided. So you'll see that what I'm drawing little red. I will pull up his reference right next to it. so that I can draw them accurately. And same thing with the goat. I'll pull up the goat reference and make sure that I draw the goat accurately. 

P20 - 09:34分辨黑灰白的时候。 

Now is the part where I differentiate between the three values for ground, mid ground and background. This will tell me the overarching black and white value of the entire piece.现在看到黑白灰三色支撑了画面。我们学到的东西没有一丁点浪费的。 You see, we're really using everything that we've learned so far. Not a drop of knowledge is wasted. And with these divisions of black and white values, now I can finally tackle my next step, which is actually coloring and going in to take this piece to a finish.接下来是上色和完工阶段。 Now this video has already gotten pretty long. So I'm gonna see you in the next episode.
