Introducing the theme: pictures about clubs and local groups in the slide. 

Nominate students to share if someone is a member of a club of local group.

Preparation for speaking 20 min

1. Model listening 3 min

Two people are looking at the adverts in the local newspaper. Listen to their conversation and number the adverts in the order they discussed them. Peer check. 

2. Listen again and complete the sentences from the conversation.  4 min

3. Match the sentences with the three categories. 5 min

Asking about interest / Talking about interests / Recommending and encouraging.

Do this exercise individually, then check with a partner. Elicit the answers from the whole class. Clarify these expressions with CCQs and drill them.

4. Get into pairs and practise the dialogue using the audio script. Change roles. Monitor learners' speaking, helping where necessary. 6 min

5. Feedback on pronunciation. 2 min

Speaking task 15 min

Work in pairs. Imagine you are interested in joining one of the clubs. Talk about each advert and each other's interests. Then choose one of the clubs to both join. 8 min

Feedback. 2 min

Mix the BORs and have the students convince their partners that they should do the activity they chose before. 5 min

Final feedback 5 min

To give delayed feedback on content and pronunciation. 

T shows the expressions on the screen that were collected during the breakout rooms. Ss suggest which sentences can be improved.
