原文："And this is August," Mr. Tushman said. Mom kind of stepped to the side a bit, so I would move forward. Then that thing happened that I've seen happen a million times before. When I looked up at her, Mrs. Garcia's eyes dropped for a second. It was so fast no one else would have noticed, since the rest of her face stayed exactly the same. She was smiling a really shiny smile.

文中的这个部分，这里的这个“笑”是Mrs.G希望别人看到的，是想要展现给别人（也就是Auggie和他妈妈）的。因为作为一个有教养的成年人她知道现在是什么情况，也清楚自己应该对小孩表现出十足的亲和力，来让Auggie接纳，让妈妈放心，但是这种感觉毕竟是“装出来”的，可能并不完全是装，但是确实有一点“刻意”，因为前文中“眼神微微闪躲”才是她最真实、最本能的反应，从而才和后文中Auggie表示只要Mrs.G不露出那样的笑容自己是有一点喜欢她的相呼应，因为一直以来Auggie想要的都不是刻意的亲切和关注，他想要别人像对待普通（ordinary）的小孩一样对待他，刻意的关心会让他有点不舒服。

而且后面Mrs.G聊到他的孙子的时候，原文是：

"No, my goodness!" said Mrs. Garcia, smiling a big smile now that was totally different from her shiny smile. "You've just made my day. He's my grandson."

这里Auggie的心中是将这个“大大的笑容（big smile）”和之前Mrs.G对他绽放的shiny smile做了个比较，强调了“different”，而且从后文中Mrs.G本来准备给大家讲她的孙儿，但是突然停住，文中的表述是：

"Thank you!" said Mrs.Garcia, nodding like she was about to say something else about her grandson. But all of a sudden her smile got a little smaller. "We're all going to take very good care of August," She said to Mom, and I saw her give Mom's hand a little squeeze.

从这里“all of a sudden”也可以看出Mrs.G是一个非常有分寸、有一定同理心的成年人，她能够敏锐地察觉到此时不应该继续孙儿这个话题，因为她的孙儿超可爱（原文中Auggie的妈妈使用cutie来形容，但是无论怎样，Mrs.G的孙儿是一个正常（ordinay）的小孩），她害怕因此刺痛Auggie和他妈妈，所以转移话题说“我们一定会照顾好奥古斯特”，然后捏捏妈妈的手手，让Auggie的妈妈放心。
