四级 CET4:

As we can see from the pictures, at family dinner tables, young people are busy bending their head down, fixing their eyes to their phones, leaving alone their aged parents, who feel left out and angry. These scenes are becoming a worrying trend today.

There is no denying that smartphones are playing increasingly-important roles in our daily life, from our life, school and to work, with a single touch at the fingertips, things we want get ordered, work needing finishing soon gets done, and even a key meeting does not always need our absence as we can access it through phone apps. However, too much time spent on phones has made it a worrying phenomenon which is growingly prevalent amongst all especially younger groups. Kids may get addicted to games, young people may get glued to video and chatting apps like Tik Tok, QQ and WeChat, interpersonal communications could be easily undermined as we would rather type through screens instead of the real world. The harms of phone addiction are not as just mentioned above, but also harms to the body: Eye problems like myopia are getting worse among young students, together with problems with their growth in necks and backbones, which in the future may cause irrecoverable damages to their wellness. Over-reliance on phones also cuts down on their independent thinking skills as they may easily find answers to the questions that are baffling them. However, if they can think themselves, they may do much better in their schoolwork.

As we can read from the first picture, again, we cannot turn a blind eye to phone addiction and we are encourage to raise our head away from phone screens. To mitigate this problem, we can start from our talking, a time when we sit together having chats, dinner or throwing parties, where I would like to give my suggestion that we put down our phones for a while and disconnect ourselves a bit from the busy life, sit down, enjoy the food, share the joy and exchange our feelings in heart-to-heart and relaxing atmosphere. There are much more moments worth memorizing and sharing in our hearts instead of our WeChat, and much more worth thinking with our witty than referring to Wiki.

六级 CET6:

As can be explicitly seen, two pictures both depict scenes prevalent among reunion dinners today in most families: young generations are bending down their necks with their eyes glued to a small-sized device easily carriable in hand meanwhile leaving alone their older generations in embarrassment and anger. That a hustling dinner is soon lonely never before made by smartphones is getting even more common where it is all with younger people. Phone addiction is a miniature of modern life today.

Not to bash the bright sides a highly-smart phone offers today with almost everything integrated into apps where a single touch or swipe through the screen easily makes a major task done or work from a remote place start as seamlessly as kicking it off in front of the office computers, or a desired item from a half-earth away easily gets its owner, it is safe to say a phone provides with almost all the conveniences but at a cost almost zero. In the meantime, the dark sides are triggering worrisome alarms to people. Above all, it has already hindered communication face-to-face as we are so attached to apps and addicted to chatting on WeChats and QQs that these virtual communications have already been slashing our interpersonal skills, making the life in the real world more of in seclusion than inclusion. Followingly, phones are raising the rates of myopia at younger ages with deformations in growth of necks and backbones, which undermines wellness of human health lifelong by exacerbating lives with debilitating illnesses as they grow older.

As two pictures mentioned: Do not turn a blind eye to phone addiction, and move our eyes from phones, spend more time with people around us. We have to find a way to curb it. But we cannot just give as simple as a cut-off strategy to such a small device, or may still be growing in its size, regarding our attachment to phones due to its significance with work and life is here to stay. A solution worth considering is to learn to take it off in particular occasions as we have been on with phones or electronic devices for so long and it is essential to have specific reasons for leaving it out for a while. This makes reasonable chances where we take up a pleasurable and heart-to-heart interpersonal communication, during which we share our true feelings with those who truly care and love us. We need more talks to people rather than machines, which is the era of phones really calls us to do. Or maybe next time, I would suggest that everyone put it away together at the dinner table, and set the game rule as “Whoever first uses their phone for photos to take, shall get all the dinner bills to be paid.”
