Today I am excited to announce what will hopefully be a permanent introduction of the remainder of the Chinese community to the global server of EVE online. The separation of Serenity and Tranquility has always annoyed me, as the appeal of EVE was always that the entire world existed on the same server competing for the same goals.
It always felt weird having a second server, regardless of the reasons, and I can now say that after seven years of slowly immigrating the Chinese players to the main server, we are now in a position to welcome a majority of the remaining Chinese player population to the global game.
For years the Chinese player community has been growing on Tranquility, first in Delve as my allies in Pangu Coalition, and then again fighting alongside me in N3 coalition during the halloween war. I can still remember Wind Spirits telling me how he would have to run weekly teamspeak seminars for his players trying to explain to them everything they needed to do to connect to Tranquility and maintain an account on the global server. Also, N3 was always having to make sure that Fraternity had a considerably amount of time away from deployments to grind isk out for Plex, since most of the players were unable to establish a way to pay for the game through normal out of game methods. For those reasons alone it’s not hard to see why Serenity continued to thrive despite the option for Chinese players to join the global server. But those times have changed, and while it’s unfortunate that the certain circumstances have forced this mass migration, we as Tranquility players should look at these events selfishly as an opportunity to grow our own game.
It’s been years since Wind Spirits first approached me to give a new budding Chinese alliance a single constellation to grow. Now there are many different Chinese corporations and alliances on our server, and the alliance Wind Spirits once created is now the leader of an independent major coalition in this game. With the addition of PIBC and their allies to Tranquility the Chinese community is soon to be one of the largest communities on the main server, and already we’ve seen a lot of content shift to what was forever a pretty dead timezone. It is now possible to have both a large number of Chinese player allies and enemies, a situation TEST alliance happens to find ourselves in currently, which is the way it should have always been.
Over the course of the next few weeks TEST alliance will be welcoming these new Chinese player alliances to Omist and helping them get a jumpstart onto our server, since they are mostly starting out from new characters. Because we have been the primary enemy of the Chinese based coalition over the last few months/years we have become the focus of attention. That puts us on display, in a situation where we must be the best of the server. We have certainly failed to be the respectful enemy at times, we have let anger rise up and let the nationalistic nature of the conflict seep through. That’s on us and it's something we regret and will improve on. There is a fear on Tranquility, that if we embrace the people of Serenity onto our server that Tranquility will suffer in some way, especially since many of the current Chinese Tranquility alliances have already developed a certain reputation. This attitude carries with it some truth, but also a danger of guilt without crime. There is a difference between what people can do and what they actually do. There is no reason to be hostile towards an entire community, even if there are a few bad actors within it, and TEST will be the first to offer a hand of friendship and a chance to grow.
Ultimately this is a major opportunity for all of us on Tranquility. It’s no secret that EVE could use some more blood right now, and a large infusion of new pilots usually only comes from major events and news stories, with a majority of those pilots never sticking around for more than a few months. With AOM and their allies joining Tranquility, we have a chance to add an established group of alliances to the game with players who not only already know how to play EVE, but actually want to play. TEST alliance is happy to announce that we will be doing what we can to help them get up to speed on our server, and we’re excited to see what they can do against the rest of the world.
