第三篇 - 惊蛰：Awakening of Insects

Directions: Translate the following passage into English.

        惊蛰，是二十四节气中的第三个节气，标志着仲春的开始。惊蛰始雷的说法则与沿江江南地区的气候规律相吻合：天气回暖、春雷始鸣，惊醒蛰伏于地下冬眠的昆虫。作为全年气温回升最快的节气，我国北方大部分地区平均气温已升至0℃以上。而江南地区多为10到15℃，多地早已是一派融融春光，日照时数也明显增加。 惊蛰日，人们有吃烙饼、吃梨子等传统，春饼卷起来，寓意好运包围，家庭和睦；而梨和“离”同音，寓意赶走身边的虫害，让庄稼健康成长，亲友远离小人谗言。

        Awakening of Insects, which marks the beginning of mid-spring, is the third of the 24 Chinese Solar Terms. The folk saying "Spring thunder starts from Awakening of Insects" comforts with climate change patterns along the coastal regions of Southern China: Weather goes warmer and thunders begin to strike, waking up insects that have long slept over winter. As the solar term with the fastest rise in temperature, it is going above 0℃ in most of Northern China regions, while along coastal regions of Southern China, it is between 10 and 15℃. Most areas here are already filled with full warmth and vigor of spring. Daytime hours are also getting noticeably longer. People have the traditions such as eating fried pancakes and pears on Awakening of Insects. While eating, they roll the pancakes, hoping they can be surrounded with good luck and have a harmonious family; In Chinese language, pear (梨，pronunced as "Li"), has a same tone as the character "离" (meaning "keeping away from") , therefore, eating pears carries a meaning of keeping their crops away from pests so they can grow better, and keeping their families and friends away from evil people, rumors and slanders.
