Virtual coffee chat/networking 要点

讲到coffee chat，最重要的是简明扼要讲清自己需求和尊重双方时间。

一般的步骤可以是提前发给对方cv或者自我介绍，讲清楚自己想要了解的问题，高效却又保质保量。

疫情期间因为大家都WFH， 有时候大家coffee chat都通过Whatsapp/zoom连线来语音。

接下来给大家看个networking发送信息的例子以及后续follow up：

Hi XXX,  

Hope you are doing well! I am Catherine, a final year university of XXX business student. I am reaching out to you because I saw you are currently working as trader in Goldman Sachs. I am very interested about being a trader too and I have applied the women's trader academy a couple of months ago. Recently I received a pre-recorded video interview invitation. Can I ask you what kinds of skills and abilities am I supposed to improve if I am going to be a trader?

Hi Catherine, 

great initiative to reach out.  I really hope the women's trader academy application goes well, a lot of global markets division interns are persons who did the trader academy so it's a fantastic introduction to the job. It is hard for me to give application advice as it's selected by HR, but thinking about why you're genuinely interested in becoming a trader and what motivates you passion for financial markets is a good place to start.  As far as skills for trading, it's inevitably a very analytical role. Staying up to date with news developments and current affairs is important, but the most important piece of advice is to ensure you take a view and analyse what you read critically (e.g. don't just describe the current polls in the US presidential election, explain what you think the outcome will be and why). As a trader or analyst in general you add value by interpreting information not by summarizing what others have presented.

在对方给出回复之后，要及时写follow up信息好让对方及时知道我们感谢他们的帮助（比如他的建议让我对这个行业更加了解了）。

Networking之前的搜索也很重要，要确定好你想从谁身上学到什么。不仅要做到真诚，同时还要展现自己的热枕，后续才能约好时间来提问自己想要知道的问题。

事实上，我认为大多数人都喜欢谈论自己。所以，在coffee chat的时候可以适当抛出话题，让对方有时间讲述自己的人生/职业故事和经验，加深彼此认识。

但是coffee chat的经历偶尔也会出现和期望中的不一样的情况。我就遇到过当提出问题后，对方说feel uncomfortable 的情况。我当时是感觉很难过，然后领英上写了一大段的文字回复对方。后来过了很长时间，我再来复盘的时候认为遇到此类情况，还是只是说感谢的话就好。毕竟大家只是萍水相逢，没有必要再引发矛盾。
