Selon le cahier des charges, le canon devait pouvoir être déposé à terre sans passer par un atelier, le matériel à cet usage étant disponible à bord. Le canon monté sur la plate-forme ou déposé, devait pouvoir pivoter sur 360°. Une fois à terre, il devait pouvoir être déplacé sur ses propres roues. La seule protection envisagée était un bouclier partiel de 8 mm protégeant contre les éclats et les projectiles de petit calibres. Le véhicule devait pouvoir aussi atteindre au minimum les 17 km/h sur route. Ces exigences rendent compliqué l'étude de ce nouveau véhicule.

De plus dans le cadre du futur programme de développement de véhicules blindés, seuls les châssis du Panzer 38(t), du Panther et du Tiger II seront utilisés pour développer ces nouveaux chars dans un but de rationalisation, ... et donc inutile de développer une nouvelle plate-forme. De plus la production du Panzer IV devant cesser, les composants techniques disponibles pour un recyclage seront légions... en principe. En réalité, les Allemands ne purent jamais se passer du char moyen Panzer IV (la production du Panther étant insuffisante pouf répondre aux besoins de la Panzerwaffe)... donc hors de question de stopper sa production (le Panzer IV fut le seul char allemand produit tout au long de la guerre du début à la fin).
