calibrate

calibrate的词源是从caliber或calibre加上-ate后缀，形成动词。caliber或calibre的词源是从中世纪法语calibre，再从阿拉伯语qalib，意思是“制造子弹的模具”。

记忆calibrate这个词的一个方法是把它和caliber联系起来，想象一个测量枪管内径或者其他仪器精度的过程。

calibrate有几个含义：

1. 通过与标准比较来检查或调整（仪器、系统等）；例如：We need to calibrate the thermometer before using it. 我们需要在使用温度计之前校准它。

2. 在（测量仪器）上标出刻度；例如：The scale was calibrated in grams and ounces. 这个秤上标有克和盎司的刻度。
