第五节 动词前缀“en-”
1. able adj 有能力、办法或机会做某事
enable vt 使能够;使可以
a. Aeronautics enables us to overcome great distances.
航空技术使我们能克服远距离障碍。
b. The bird's large wings enable it to fly. 这鸟的大翅膀使它能飞。
2. camp vi/vt 扎营;宿营;使扎营(住宿);为…提供住处;临时安顿:
a. The hunters camped themselves in the valley. 猎人们在山谷中扎营。
b. The soldiers were temporally camped in the open.
士兵们暂时被安顿在户外露天处。
encamp vt/ vi 扎营;露营(常用被动)把…安置于营中
They were encamped in the tents. 他们在帐篷中宿营。
把这两个词与“station”、“install”、“post”、“perch”一起学习,便于理解与记忆。

3. case vt 装盒;装箱

encase vt 装在箱内;包装(in)

4. chain vt 用铁链锁住
The prisoners were chained to the wall. 囚犯们被铁链锁在墙上。
enchain vt 用锁链锁住
to be enchained by ignorance and superstition. 为无知和迷信所束缚。
5. cirle vt/vi 环绕;环行
The aircraft circled (over) the landing-field. 该飞机在起落场上空盘旋。
encircle vt 环绕;包围
a lake encircled by trees. 绿树绕湖。
6. close vt/vi 闭;关;合起
This box doesn’t close properly. 这只箱子合不拢。
enclose vt 围以墙;包围; 装入
With this letter I enclose a photograph. 随信附上照片一张。
7. encode vt 译成密码
to encode a message. 把一份电文译成电码(或密码)。
decode vt 译解密码
to decode data or a message. 译数据或电文密码。
8. compass vt 包含;包围
encompass vt (更常用)围绕;包含;包围;包括
They built a moat to encompass the castle. 他们在城堡周围修了一条护城河。
9. crust vi/vt (over) 为硬壳覆盖;结一层硬壳
