1. Grindelwald’s childhood

Grindelwald was borm around 1883, but his place of birth is a mystery. As a young wizard he attended Durmstrang - a European wizarding school with a reputation for Dark magic.

The school expelled Grindelwald for twisted experiments and near-fatal attacks on his fellow students.

2. The Deathly Hallows

Undeterred by his Durmstrang expulsion, the young Grindelwald headed to Godric’s Hollow in England, where he stayed in the home of his great aunt, History of Magic author Bathida Bagshot. The village was once the home of Ignotus Peverell, one of the three brothers who first owned the Deathly Hallows. It was also home to the Dumbledore family.

Upon discovering Credence was an Obscurial - a repressed wizard bursting with an uncontrollable dangerous magical energy- Grindelwald tried to use him to expose the North American wizarding community, and create a weapon against Dumbledore.
