A Marine Corps F-35 fighter jet crashed in Imperial County, California, after clipping the wing of a Marine KC-130 refueling tanker during a mid-air refueling, according to a Marine Corps statement.

Yea it's snapped but that might have happened on landing. If the F35 snapped that C-130 in half through wing contact that is crazy. If they flew and landed after that would be even crazier.

We would have 'training evolutions' in my infantry company. Air wings probably use the same verbiage for their stuff. I think one of the definitions of evolution is a pattern or maneuver.

Definitely a shame about the aircraft, but remember that crashes also teach us. We learn more about training shot comings, structural weaknesses, ejection system performance, overall survivability, etc. All crashes of these aircraft are studied for the valuable insights they provide, so it’s not just a complete waste. Replicating these conditions costs much more than a single airfrx in terms of dollars, so the net loss isn’t necessarily that large.
