After nearly 44 minutes of excitement, sex, and fast-paced music centered in a literal or spiritual Vegas, Kevin Parker helps the Weeknd calm down. “Repeat After Me (Interlude),” a track deep in After Hours, produced by Parker and the Weeknd’s Uncut Gems friend Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never), gives the Weeknd and the listener a rest, while also clearing the stage for the record’s dark closing tracks. The interlude acts as an oasis for the Weeknd; here, he can sing delicately and sound sweet, even if it is a lurid sweetness, and his words leave a wistful, transient impression as they drift away.
