A dark, moody style of Cabaret-inspired music. Instrumentation can be very varied, ranging from pianos and synthesizers to violins, cellos, and accordions, to acoustic and electric guitars and bass. UK's The Tiger Lillies were one of the first acts to play in this style in the mid-1990s, though the genre was popularised by The Dresden Dolls in the early-to-mid-2000s.
