Karez is a kind of water conservancy system in drought areas of Xinjiang.It is formed by connecting channels underground to water wells.This system collects large amount of rain and snow-melting water,which seeped into the ground in spring and summer, and bring the water to the surface by(via) the natural slope of the mountain in oreder to irrigate farmland and meet the need of daily water use. Karez has reduce the evaporation of water on the surface and has damaged the surface minimally. Therefore, it has effectivelly protected the natural resource and ecological environment. Karez has reflected the wisdom of Chinese people to live the nature harmoniously and it is a great contribution for human civilization.
