在所有的角色阵容中，戈伯显得更为久经沙场些，他的身体特征表明他积累了多年与龙打交道的第一手经验，是担任猎龙人教练的理想人选。同时他也是村里的铁匠，但更重要的是，戈伯是希卡普和斯托伊克之间必要的调解人，他和他们的关系就像一个家庭顾问一样解决两人之间的问题。

Clearly the most battle-worn of all the characters in the lineup , Gobber has the physical markings to show that he has gathered years of firsthand experience with dragons and is the ideal candidate to serve as the trainer of the recruits . He is also the blacksmith for the village, but more importantly, Gobber is the necessary intermediary between Hiccup and Stoick . ' He's like a family counselor by nature of his relationship with them —— as the best friend of one and mentor to the other —— and he serves that role even if he's not equipped to do so , ' say Director Dean DeBlois . With a colorful personality and a humorously varied selection of prosthetic appendages , Gobber is the most incomplete character physically, but he is emotionally more complete . 

Gobber is the best friend of Stoick , the only person in the world who knows that Stoick almost cried once .
