Describe a book that you have read many times 相关表达(文字版本)

You should say:

Q1 What the book is about

I’d like to talk about a/ an ____________[genre 体裁]  titled__________, written by________. It’s set in ______[time/place] and follows/ tells the story of/ centers on ____[protagonist(s) 主角] who/ as they _____________________________________[main plot 主要情节].

Fiction (小说) example:

I’d like to talk about a fiction I just can’t put down (爱不释手的书). It’s a coming-of-age novel (成长小说) actually, titled The Catcher in the Rye (麦田里的守望者), written by J. D. Salinger. It’s set in the 40s in America and follows a depressed (=extremely sad) teenager as he drops out of school (辍学) and sets out on a two-day journey (=start a journey) in New York City.

Non-fiction (非虚构) example:

There’s a self-help book (自助书籍) that I couldn’t get enough of (怎么看都不够). It’s a bestseller (畅销书) titled The Courage to Be Disliked (被讨厌的勇气), which deals with (论述)/ explores (探讨)/ delves into (深入) interpersonal relationship (人际关系) problems through a conversation between a philosopher (哲学家) and a young man.

Q2 How often you read this book

I read it whenever I ____________.

Fiction (小说) example:

I read The Shining (闪灵) whenever I’m in the mood for (=want...) something spooky (怪异的;诡异的). So far, this has already been my fourth reread (第四遍重读=my fourth times around), and I still love it to bits (非常喜爱,特别喜欢).

Non-fiction (非虚构) example:

I read Nonviolent Communication (非暴力沟通) whenever I need some guidance on (...方面的指导) how to effectively (有效地) interact with (互动) others. Every time I revisit (=reread, return to...) the book, I could discover something new (发现新的东西).

Q3 Why you read it

[adv. + adj.]

The story is incredibly entertaining (很有趣).

The characters are absolutely fascinating (很吸引人).

The plot is so intriguing (引人入胜的).

The writing is super accessible (通俗易懂的).

[It’s a ... read(n.)]

It’s a compelling read (扣人心弦的书) that had me on the edge of my seat (激动得坐不住).

It’s such a(n) easy/quick read (易读/读得快的书). I could read the whole book in one sitting (一口气).

It’s a great comfort read (抚慰人心的书) for a cozy afternoon (舒服的午后).

It’s an amazing feel-good book (=comfort read) that warms my heart.

[Funny expressions]

The comfort read/feel-good book gives me warm fuzzy feelings(暖心的)

The exciting plot gives me goose bumps(激动地起鸡皮疙瘩)

It’s such a page turner. I was just hooked! (读得停不下)

The tragic story made me cry. In fact, it had me bawling my eyes out(伤心地大哭)

Fiction (小说) example:

It’s just such a compelling read. The plot is so intriguing. I still get goosebumps every time I reread it. Aside from that, the writing is also super accessible and user-friendly. I could literally read the entire book in one sitting.

Q4 And explain what effect the book has on you

Fiction (小说) example:

(Emotional impact 情感方面的影响)

The Catcher in the Rye told such a relatable (可以共鸣的) story. Holden’s experiences really resonate with (共鸣) me, as I was trapped in (困住) a very similar situation. Like Holden, I was going through a rough patch (处于低谷) and felt extremely lonely. But reading this book was like having a close friend who understood my struggles. I took great comfort in (从...得到安慰) the knowledge that I was not alone in being lonely. So yeah, I’d say it has an enormous effect on (影响很大) me as it got me through my darkest days (带我走出低谷).

Non-fiction (非虚构) example:

[Personal growth 个人成长]

There is one concept (概念) in The Courage to be Disliked called separating tasks (课题分离), which basically means other people’s expectations (期望) are not our responsibilities. This idea is such an eye-opener (有启发性的东西) for me. It made me realize how I used to make other people happy at my own expense (取悦他人,委屈自己). After reading the book, I resolved that (决定) I’d stop being a people-pleaser (讨好人格的人) and live for myself for once. So far, it has been a life-changer (=it has been life-changing/it has changed my life)!
