Base Delta Zero又称“德尔塔零基地命令”或简称BDZ，是早在克隆人战争时期银河共和国海军所计划提出的，使用舰队大规模轨道轰炸的方式来摧毁行星表面，包括地表上的所有生命和聚落以及生态圈，也因此达到震慑作用促使敌军投降，该指令在前者中可作为战略威慑作用来瓦解当地的武装叛乱的手段，后者中可作为克制性力量使其故意成为摧毁行星的工具来作为对敌战术，而该项海军指令从银河共和国到银河帝国都被使用，该项海军指令在银河帝国时期则是受塔金主义的笼罩下被最大范围实施，以此震慑反抗力量来巩固银河帝国的统治。

 与常规的轨道轰炸方式不同，BDZ命令的轨道轰炸则是通过最大化程度的舰队轰炸下来摧毁整颗行星，而行星表面的城市村落和山脉丘陵平原等全部都会化为死寂般的平地，低威力的轰炸下仅仅是将地表烧玻璃，而高威力轰炸下则可以把行星地表炸为熔融物，甚至能将一块大陆炸成齑粉般的碎片然后剥离行星表面漂浮在太空中，而行星大气层会在持续的轨道轰炸下则会受到最严重的污染和破坏性影响。

 而在银河帝国的多项海军指令当中，则被认定为是最高极限的命令，而由于其影响性，BDZ命令在执行之前帝国海军都会下达通牒，以此作为瓦解叛乱的手段。

Base Delta Zero initiative was originally introduced by the Galactic Republic, as a last resort against enemy armies entrenched deep underground. After the Republic was replaced by the Galactic Empire at the end of the devastating Clone Wars, the code remained in use. However, the Empire publicly claimed that Base Delta Zero was only involved in planetary liberations, while in actuality the tactic was used for mass exterminations. In her journal, the Mandalorian artist and freedom fighter Sabine Wren wrote about how the Empire had lied about the true meaning of the code.(新正史，部分内容新旧正史通用）

Devastating planetary bombardments were recorded from the earliest millennia of galactic history. For instance, the Infinite Empire laid waste to Tatooine before the dawn of the Old Republic, 

 and around 4000 BBY, Yavin 4 was devastated by firestorms created by Force energy,   while the Sith forces in the Jedi Civil War obliterated the surfaces of Telos IV in 3958 BBY and Taris in 3956 BBY. But these atrocities paled before the power of a Base Delta Zero operation. Even hardened Imperial officers who were well versed in invasion operations found the tactic unsettling. Some saw it worse than destroying the planet outright

The Confederacy of Independent Systems bombarded the ecumenopolis of Humbarine in a Base Delta Zero operation during the Clone Wars, melting the crust of the planet. The Galactic Republic also engaged in orbital bombardments and made use of the tactic to destroy deeply entrenched Separatist armies.

Under the New Order, Base Delta Zero operations continued to be mounted primarily against targets that the Imperial Army had failed to gain control of by direct assault, but such missions acquired increasingly punitive overtones, being used against rebellious planets where the Empire judged a ground assault would incur too many Imperial casualties, or simply where forces were not available to mount a direct attack. As few as three Imperiaclass Star Destroyers could execute such operations in a matter of hours.

In 19 BBY, Imperial warships used the BDZ tactic on the planet Caamas. However, Imperial involvement was suspected only and could not be proven until the Caamas Document was discovered in 19 ABY.

In 4 BBY, Moff Sarn Shild gave a Base Delta Zero command targeting the smugglers' haven of Nar Shaddaa. This order was not carried out because of the Imperial defeat at the Battle of Nar Shaddaa.

At one point, the Asserto Star Dreadnought Wrath led a Base Delta Zero operation, which involved various TIE/D Defender squadrons

at some Imperial-class Star Destroyers, and at least one Interdictor class Star Destroyer. Storm Commandos were known to assist in these operations, usually to destroy a specific target, such as a shield generator.

In addition to naval bombardment, army missions with the same objective as a Base Delta Zero command were undertaken to combat the enemies of the Empire. The mercenary unit First Sun Mobile Regiment was often hired by the Galactic Empire to destroy all enemy assets similarly to a BDZ bombardment.

Enlisting the aid of Bothan operatives on the ground, Palpatine had Caamas's planetary shields switched off,subjecting the world to a fiery bombardment from Star Destroyers.

The attack led to firestorms that lasted for years, finishing off the remaining plant life that survived the initial devastation. Surviving animal life was slowly killed off due to starvation or asphyxiation. Most of the Caamasi population were killed in the attack, with an estimated 200 survivors left alive after the bombardment.

Due to the loss of all plant life, the planet experienced heavy erosion which changed the surface features. Soot and smoke filled the atmosphere, altering the planet's climate, and the oceans became polluted from runoff. Breath masks became mandatory for any visitors to the world who planned on staying outdoors for longer periods of time.

The Galactic Empire's guilt and the aid given by the Bothans was eventually uncovered. This fact came to a head with the Caamas Document Crisis in 19 ABY.
