This is a LOOOONG thread for anyone who is interested in Honkai Impact 3rd.
I will address this for the perspectives of the viewers/community and also as a streamer.
There are different niches within HI3. I will be taking about the story aspects, since that is my forte.
Members of the community who follow the story tend to be very excited to see their favorite streamer play the story. For a good reason. However, we need to understand that streamers are not there to play in silence. They are prone to missing critical information at times.
Of course, I speak for myself and not everyone. However, if we weren't excited to play the game, we wouldn't have played in the first place. It's just that streamers also needs to multitask for good vibes, interact with chat, and make the stream as enjoayable as possible
One could argue: "We support you regardless. Play in silence! Make sure you pay attention."
But for many creators, we see this as borderline "death sentence" to the life of the stream. Maybe I'm talking only for myself here, but many creators would probably agree.
Now, when it comes to SPOILERS, I've notice that it's really hard to 100% keep yourself in check as a VIEWER. Again, I like to believe this is because of our passion.
I've tried many different methods to combat unintentional spoilers, but realized that it's impossible.
I also realized most of the time these accidental spoilers mean no harm or with negative intent. However, as a viewer, I believe that we should always be mindful.
This is essential not only for the life of the stream itself, but also to the creators own sanity.
Now to any creators thinking of playing the game for the story... Oh boy...
First question you need to ask yourself is: "How invested do you want to be?"
Because in order to get the full experience of the story, one must go through what I call "The rite of passage."
Not only do you need to learn to focus and pay attention to the complexity of the story, but the moment you miss something cruicial, you will be lost.
Of course, this all has to be done while engaging with chat and somehow, someway, help create some sort of entertainment.
Because the moment you focus solely on entertainment, you miss important elements of the story.
When you focus on the story TOO much, your stream interaction plummets.
Again, going back to the initial question:
"How invested do you want to be?"
You will find that at times, chat turns into spoiler landmines. Even things like "emote only" mode is insufficient, because let's face it:
We're not dumb.
Once chat starts spamming at an alarming rate, you know something is about to happen. It's unavoidable.
Few ways that I tried to diminish these issues were:
Option 1: Just don't look at your chat to focus on the story.
You could avoid potential spoilers in this manner. But as I mentioned, this essentially goes against the interaction aspect of a stream.
Or option 2: Interact and be entertaining. Then just ask chat for help on context of the story that you might have missed.
But this also has it's own problems. Questions like: "Can someone fill me in?" invites a carpet bomb of potential, accidental spoilers.
Of course, you can be a streamer who wants to just vibe. But that's where we need to revisit the original question:
"How invested do you WANT to be?"
This is a very important question, because Honkai Impact 3rd's main appeal is the STORY. (My personal opinion)
Honestly, I feel at a loss.
I love this game and I want the community to thrive as more creators try out the game. But the passion of the community, while amazing, at times cause inadvertent problems when it comes to the stratosphere of streaming content.
Don't get me wrong. I love the passion of all captains and the community members.
I love the story of this game to death. It's why I continue to play admist all these privileged issues.
But while I may be biased, I understand and acknowledge the problems that DO exist.
Somehow, I was able to get to this point with the help of my community being hyper aware of the issue. As we talk about it on several occasions for full transparency.
Honestly, I just wanted to share my perspectives, from both sides, in hopes that both the viewers and streamers will understand each other and their perspectives.
So that we can grow together.
If anyone has a suggestion for this dilemma, LET ME KNOW!
