六王毕，四海一。
The six states died, by Qin they were unified.
蜀山兀，阿房出。
All trees were cut down on the hill, for having a great palace was the King's will.
覆压三百余里，隔离天日。
The palace covered a hundred-square-mile area, making the heaven and sun seem to disappear.
骊山北构而西折，直走咸阳。
Constructed from the north of Mount Li and extended to the west, arriving at the capital where the King took his rest.
二川溶溶，流入宫墙。
Two rivers contained a lot of water, with the moat they were connected together.
五步一楼，十步一阁，廊腰缦回，檐牙高啄。
Between two buildings was just several step's distance, the hallways were similar to waists and eaves had tooth-like appearance.
各抱地势，钩心斗角。
All houses followed the topography, against each other as the fight was ready.
盘盘焉，囷囷焉，蜂房水涡，矗不知其几千万落。
They went tortuously and were like bee nests and puddles, no one could tell how many they were.
长桥卧波，未云何龙？复道行空，不霁何虹？
A long bridge was lying over the waves. Without clouds why was there a dragon?
A passageway was set in the sky. Why was there a rainbow though the rain didn't happen?
高低冥迷，不知西东。
High and low buildings made one in confusion, and not able to tell the right direction.
歌台暖响，春光融融。舞殿冷袖，风雨凄凄。
On the stage people's singing was like the sunshine in spring.
When dancing, people's waving sleeves were like the freezing storm blowing.
一日之内，一宫之间，而气候不齐。
Just on the same day, just in the same palace, there were all kinds of climates.
妃嫔媵嫱，王子皇孙，辞楼下殿，辇来于秦。
Concubines and princesses from the six states, left their homelands and came into Qin's palace gates.
朝歌夜弦，为秦宫人。
They sang songs and played instruments day and night, what they did was being Qin's servants right.
明星荧荧，开妆镜也。绿云扰扰，梳晓鬟也。
It was bright like stars that they took out their mirrors, it was messy like black clouds that they were combing their hairs.
渭流涨腻，弃脂水也。烟斜雾横，焚椒兰也。
Water with rouge made the Wei River oily, spices that were burned to keep clothes fragrant got the air smoky.
雷霆乍惊，宫车过也，辘辘远听，杳不知其所之也。
The sound of wagons was just like thunder, after hearing far their positions to go to couldn't be made sure.
一肌一容，尽态极妍，缦立远视，而望幸焉。有不见者，三十六年。
The girls' skins and looks were extremely beautiful.
They stood and looked far, hoping to let the King joyful.
However, some of them had waited for 36 years then realised meeting him wasn't so possible.
燕赵之收藏，韩魏之经营，齐楚之精英，几世几年，摽掠其人，倚叠如山。
The collections of Yan and Zhao, the possessions of Han and Wei, the treasures of Qi and Chu, were plundered from their people for many years so that they could be accumulated as a mountain.
一旦不能有，输来其间。
One day their countries were beaten, all those were transported to the region where Qin had kept a long reign.
鼎铛玉石，金块珠砾，弃掷逦迤，秦人视之，亦不甚惜。
Large pots and jade were regarded as small pans and rocks, while pearls and gold were seen as sands and earth blocks.
They were littered everywhere just as rubbish, and Qin people never thought these things were for them to cherish.
嗟乎！一人之心，千万人之心也。
Eh! The heart of an individual, essentially had no difference with other people.
秦爱纷奢，人亦念其家。
Qin's King was attracted at objects that were luxurious and fanciful, while commoners were willing to live with family and remain peaceful.
奈何取之尽锱铢，用之如泥沙？
So why took those things without anything left but used them as mud and sand?
使负栋之柱，多于南亩之农夫；架梁之椽，多于机上之工女。
Making the columns carrying weight more than peasants in the fields; while the rafters more than female workers who worked on weaving industry.
钉头磷磷，多于在庾之粟粒；瓦缝参差，多于周身之帛缕。
There were more sharp nails than grains in the storehouses; and more tile seams than clothes around one's body.
直栏横槛，多于九土之城郭；管弦呕哑，多于市人之言语。
There were more fences in the palace than city walls of the country; and musical tones more than words of people in the market sounding noisy.
使天下之人，不敢言而敢怒；独夫之心，日益骄固。
As a result, the people all over the country could only be angry but had nothing to say; the mind of the dictator became stubborn day by day.
戍卒叫，函谷举；楚人一炬，可怜焦土！
Hangu had fallen while there came the border guards' insurrection; because of Chu person's fire all the miracles turned just a vision!
呜呼！灭六国者六国也，非秦也；族秦者秦也，非天下也。
Ah! The ones who killed the six states were themselves rather than Qin; the one who killed Qin was itself rather than people beneath the heaven.
嗟乎！使六国各爱其人，则足以拒秦。使秦复爱六国之人，则递三世可至万世而为君，谁得而族灭也？
Eh! If the six states had all loved their people, they would be strong enough to defend against Qin. If Qin had loved the people of the six states, it could pass to the third king and then have its rule forever, who could get it destroyed?
秦人不暇自哀，而后人哀之。后人哀之而不鉴之，亦使后人而复哀后人也。
Qin people had no time to be sad for themselves, while latter people have been so. However, if latter ones are just sad but do not take this as a lesson, more latter ones will repeat the sadness again and again.
