霍勒斯·沃波尔是第四任奥福德伯爵（1717-1797年），英国作家。他的《奥特兰托城堡》（1764年）首创了集神秘、恐怖和超自然元素于一体的哥特式小说风尚，形成英国浪漫主义诗歌运动的重要阶段。沃波尔写了大约4000封信，其中一些被认为是英语语言中最杰出的文字。
