Soccer Mommy has often used this technique to poke fun at Allison’s vulnerabilities, but on her latest song “Shotgun,” she welcomes the overwhelming—and often terrifying—surrender of letting yourself fall in love, knowing it’s probably going to hurt.

Her new album Sometimes, Forever is her first to be produced by Oneohtrix Point Never’s Daniel Lopatin, whose mastery of multitrack sound sculpture appears to have influenced the first single’s arrangement; Allison’s tones are still distinct, but where once there was air in the mix, there’s now density, clean guitars made rougher and more tightly wound with each new layer stacked atop one another.
