旷野与城市，从根本上讲,是对立的。
城市驱散了旷野原有的住民，破坏了旷野古老的风景，越来越多地以井然有序的繁华，取代我行我素的自然风光。
今天，旷野日益退缩着， 但人们不应忽略旷野，遨视旷野，而要寻觅出与其相亲相守的最佳间隙。 善待旷就是善待人类自身。 要知道，人类永远不可能以城市战胜旷野。 （共237字）
本文选自毕淑敏写的一篇散文《旷野与城市》。
旷野其实是广义的乡村，现在城市的高楼大厦一点一点的侵蚀着旷野，人们的心灵越来越找不到栖身之处。作者急切希望旷野不要在一点点消失。
本篇共237个字，共四句话，句子成分容易区分，不算难，下面逐一解析。
第一句话，城市驱散了旷野原有的住民，破坏了旷野古老的风景，越来越多地以井然有序的繁华，取代我行我素的自然风光。
第一步，译出主谓宾。
“驱散”常翻译为disperse或dispel;
“原有的住民”可翻译为original residents或indigenous inhabitants;

第一步，译出主谓宾。
The wilderness is shrinking. People should not ignore or show a total disregard for the wilderness, but to look for the best space.
本句整体结构是一个转折关系的并列句，可以用although,或but或however表示转折。
本句中的“退缩”不是“在困难面前退缩”的意思，而是指“面积缩小”，因此翻译为shrink，而不是retreat。
“忽略旷野”和“漠视旷野”表达了同样的含义，但是汉语如此表达是为了表示强调。
英语中避免重复，又要表达出强调的含义，可以采用不同的译法，“忽略”或“漠视”常见的表达方式有ignore，overlook, neglect, disregard, show a disregard for, lose sight of, turn a blind eye to等；
“寻觅”译为seek或look for均可；

“相亲相守”在此处的含义是“与(旷野)和谐相处”，可翻译为get along well with或live in harmony with;

第三句善待旷就是善待人类自身，这是一个简单句。
直接译出主谓宾。
主语是“善待旷野”，翻译为动名词或不定式结构均可。
“善待”可译为be kind/friendly/nice to 或“treat….well/kindly”。
Being kind to the wilderness is being kind to human beings themselves.
第四句 要知道，人类永远不可能以城市战胜旷野。
直接译出主谓宾。
We need to bear in mind that human beings can never defeat the wilderness with the city.
“要知道”的主语是“我们”或者“人们”，翻译为“We/people should know that…"或“We/people should bear in mind that…";
