35 Lesson 6 - Foolproof Photobashing Part 3 - Film Color PT2
P35 - 00:01影视风格二。
There we have it all lighten layer,

as you can see, there’s a huge difference that we’ve got made. So we now pushed everything that we needed backwards, by taking away detail, by making things lighter. We were able to push those things into the background and bring our foreground to the front.

And it feels like our image has depth. It has atmosphere, it has breath, there is missed, there's fog. There's all those things. It feels like the elements is actually finally taking over this piece, which is all good things. And this was super simple to do.

All we did was we ask ourselves, is this thing on the back or is this thing on the front? And we think that this mountain is in the very back. So we make it the lightest. This is kind of in the back but not as back as the mountain. So we make it lighter than the mountains. And then the house is closer than little red riding hood. So we make it lighter than the little red riding hood. And we make it lighter in the front up here. But it's darker in the mountains. And that's pretty much it. it just things of going consecutive consecutive lighter as they go into the background. And once they get the foreground, then they get darker, to a very simple concept.

So now that we've finished lightening things up, now it's time to do the opposite.

And I'm pretty sure you can guess what's gonna come next, which is darkening things up. Very nice.

So we're going to take a new layer right here, I’m going to create a clipping mask.

Go down to darken. And what darken does is it can only make things darker and it can't make things lighter.

And I'm just gonna go through and make specific items here. Well, as its name says darker, so here is a really common misconception about the usage or painting over photo bashing works. People believe that. Oh, well, if I'm going to paint it over, because I need to touch up some stuff, then I just take my brush and I go directly on Top of the photo. No, you should not do that.
P35 - 02:13容易误解的是直接刷子在上面涂。
The reason is because no matter what we do, if we try to go paint on Top of the photo, we're never gonna be able to paint as well as the photograph in our short amount of given time.

Now, if you were given like an infinite amount of time, like an eternity to paint something, then yes, I would say, okay, sure you have a shot of making something and painting something better than a photograph.

But when you need to turn this entire piece in in three days to your art director, you do not have the luxury of being able to take the time to render out super, super tiny details.

The photograph is going to beat you in every single way possible. When it comes to being able to show off detail. Therefore just let the photograph win.
P35 - 03:01细节上照片可短时间内完胜手绘。
so use layers like darken and lighten. These things are very much non destructive to your piece. because they don't take away the detail of the actual texture. So even though I'm going in here and making things darker, it's not really taking away some of the texture.
P35 - 03:20涂黑不会破坏照片材质。
For example, if I go in here and I make this a little bit darker, right? Just like this, a little bit darker, you see how it still keeps so much of that texture right there. This is not achievable. If you simply went on there with a normal brush and just paint it on Top of it.

So by using things like darken, lighten, multiply, overlay, these things keep the photograph intact.

And so it gives us a hyper realistic photographic look. Technology is meant to make our life faster and easier and smarter as opposed to make things faster.

So embrace it. Embrace using the tools that photoshop has given you.

And revel in the fact that you are now a faster artist because of it. It's not cheating. It's simply the new way of life. In fact, these days, people don't even draw this stuff anymore. They just make a 3D model and render that out, and then paint on Top of it ever so slightly. So in fact, we're the outdated version. If you really think about it, that's why it's important to work and catch up.

So now I'm just gonna go ahead and darken all the items that I need to dark in this piece.

Let's go and dark things up. That sounds really strange, but I'm gonna stick to it, dark things up. Let's go.

So I'm gonna go through and show you exactly which areas specifically that I darkened up.

First of all, I want to avoid these little white dots everywhere, because even though they're very nice detail. They are very pretty. They make this entire area feel very muddy. I don't want something that's muddy. I want something that is much more clear.

Therefore i go in and i'll raise pretty much all of them. So I try to get rid of all those tiny little white dots. I go in here and I do the same. I dark and whatever the shadows are, for my rocks.

I dark in this bank right here. And in case you're wondering, all I simply did was I made my adjustments, but on the dark layer. And then I'm simply showing you what specific adjustments I did.

So no, I do not have a magic brush that can just make things appear out of thin air, I’m using a layer mask to unveil what i've done to show you so that I can walk you through exactly the steps that I took, to darken everything.

So you can see that I completely dark in this bank here. So originally it was this light. And then I took it to this level here. it takes away detail. As you can see, there is definitely not as much detail anymore, but that's a good thing. That's not a bad thing at all.

Because I don't want there to be so much detail here. I want my focus to be more toward the center.

That being said, I look back on this and I feel like there's still a little bit too much detail that is lacking. So I'm going to ever so slightly lighten it.

And now I'm looking at my piece. And there's a few adjustments I want to make myself.

Number one. I want little red to be a little bit redder. I want her to really pop out in the color.

number two, I feel like this chimney sticks out a little bit too much. I wanted to go darker. So I'm going to use a multiply layer to bring it darker.

Number three, I also want this river bank in the front to be darker as well. When you turn it into black and white, there's not that much of a difference between here and here.

These two values are starting to clash a little bit too much. I still want to go in to multiply and adjust that.

After that, I need to add a little red shadow. I also want to get rid of these trees right down here.

So knowing these things and writing these things out onto my paper. So knowing these things and writing these things out onto my canvas, gives me a game plan.

So I will tackle these things one by one, starting with probably the most difficult, which would be to get rid of these trees and to prepare for the fact that I'm going to put in little red's reflection as well as the fact that I will need the houses reflection.

after that. Then I will feel like I’m starting to get close to finishing the piece.

to tackle the reflection, I go down into the actual lake. So this is my lack here. I'm going to see if photoshop by any chance can simply erased them using the power of edit fill content aware.

Ok, photoshop did an OK job, it wasn't that fantastic. But maybe if we give photo shop a little bit more Information by being a little bit more specific.

That's a lot better. Not perfect, but a lot better. Let's go on and do a little bit more.
P35 - 08:06好多了,再多做一点。
So this is the most photo shop will adjust as of for now. We'll come back to fixing all of this stuff a little bit later, because we put down little red’s reflection. Her reflection will cover up a lot of this stuff anyway. So I don't really want to worry about it right now.
P35 - 08:27红帽倒影遮挡住树木倒影。
Let's get to the part about fixing the house. to fix the house. I'm gonna go into my darken layer.
P35 - 08:32房子的,加深调节图层。
And all I really have to do is make my chimney darker. I go into that dark's layer mask.
P35 - 08:42烟囱的加深蒙版图层。
I know we have a lot of layers here. now my chimney is that darker. You can do the same thing with my bank.

P35 - 08:57烟囱黑了,同样的操作用给河床。
You can see that making a darker caused it to add a lot more detail, which I don't really want, because then it would attract too much attention.
P35 - 09:10加深色加入很多细节,耗费精力。
So I take my darken layer and I subtract away from that detail.

There we are. Now things are starting to feel a lot better. Let's go in for little red's hood.
P35 - 09:27开始锁定小红帽的修改吧。
So for little red hood specifically because it's supposed to be so red, I'm actually going to make a new layer, go on Top. create clipping mask, because it is above everything. So this new layer is above everything. Let's go for, I would say, probably multiply would be a good choice, in my opinion.
P35 - 09:45新图层 顶部 剪切蒙版 多重图层模式。
So I go up here to a light pink, and I just gently brush in her hood and you can see that it's really making her hood just completely pop.
P35 - 09:59亮粉色让红帽更加醒目。
So if I take away, you see that it's really pale. If I added, super strong.
P35 - 10:06不加是苍白,加了很醒目。
In fact, it's a little bit too strong like this is that is really red. Oh, dear lord. So I'm gonna ever so slightly tone it down for like 45%. Yeah, that's a lot better.

P35 - 10:17太强亮色,降低到45%好很多。
So now I want to do little red's reflection on the water, because it's kind of important.
P35 - 10:25开始做小红帽水中倒影。
As you remember, we have a little red reflection right here. We kept it. So obviously it's not touched at all at the moment by any of the other layers.
P35 - 10:34备份小红帽倒影没被修改干扰。
So it does not feel like it fits into the painting. So I'm going to right click it merge group.
P35 - 10:42不太符合画风。右侧融合组。
And now it is a complete flat image, that will make it a lot easier to handle. Trust me. So I'm gonna drag it down into my lights.

P35 - 10:51融合组放在增量调节图层下。
And you can see that immediately it gets colorized, because of the multiply layer that falls on Top of it.
P35 - 10:59因为多重层在倒影层上面。
Still not obviously, to the level that little red is at. So it doesn't feel like it fakes.
P35 - 11:08看起来还是有点假倒影。
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to add a new layer, clipping mask. And I'm just going to do lighten.
P35 - 11:12新图层 剪切蒙版 增亮。
And I take this shadow color right here and I color all the little red with that shadow.
P35 - 11:19给红帽阴影色。
So immediately she feels a lot more kind of darker. And because it's a reflection, reflections are meant to be darker.
P35 - 11:30倒影常识比本人更暗。
I'm going to add a new layer, create clipping mask, and it's going to have a gentle brush her with a gray.
P35 - 11:38新图层 剪切蒙版 柔和刷灰色。
And so now she gets this kind of dark look to her, slightly brushing it out. And that is perfect for a reflection.

P35 - 11:49倒影好了。
Now, obviously, as you can tell, one thing is really weird, which is the fact that these rocks are in the way. Reflections aren't supposed to appear on rocks.
P35 - 12:00但是倒影不应该在前面的岩石上。
So what we do is we create a layer mask. And now whatever I paint in black, the reflection disappears.

Now my selection have done, I’m just race out those specific areas.

For reflections are meant to a little bit faded. So I will lower the opacity.

And then another trick I'm gonna do is go to filter blur and motion blur.

And then that is too much motion blur. I’m going to blur down like this, just a little bit, just a touch like that. So pointing it straight out, with a distance of around eight pixels.

P35 - 12:51八像素左右的运动模糊就可。
Ok. And now it has a slight reflective quality to it. And now it has a slightly blurred quality to it, which is fantastic.
P35 - 13:04模糊的反射效果。
I get a reflection of my little red and you can see that it covers up the trees that we're standing here in the background originally.
P35 - 13:12红帽倒影覆盖原版树木倒影。
So when when I did not take care of those trees after all, another reflection that we have to do is actually the house. The house is a little bit more complex, because it's a lot bigger.
P35 - 13:25房子大点复杂点。
If we go down here to our house. You can see that there would be a lot of items and there's a lot of adjustments we made to it already.
P35 - 13:36房附属元素和调节图层已经很多。
So I'm going to hack it, by taking a screen shot, cutting out the house, and then re pasting it.

Yeah, I know it's a junkie, but I promise you it works.

if you take a screen shot in any way that you like. But I like to use the snap tool. And I go to my very Top layer, go to the very top and just paste.
P35 - 14:00截图后到顶部图层粘贴。
The reason why I don't have to go down to any of these layers down here, is because you can see that this house is already finished.
P35 - 14:08我不到底部图层,因房子完工了。
We don't need to do anything to it. Now comes the hard part. I have to actually try and fit this house into the image into the scene, thankfully,
P35 - 14:17房子最后适应这图片。
because I took a screen shot of it. It's not too difficult to fit it right back.
P35 - 14:23因为是截图所以粘贴复原不难。
And even though the house looks like it's so blurry and seizures on stereotype, it's going to be fine for our reflection, in a flip vertical.

And then we're gonna drag it down, right where roughly these stairs meet.

Because we need to make sure that it feels as if the house is being reflected onto the water. I go, okay, I increase my opacity back up.

P35 - 14:55不透明度调高。
And now I have this house just hanging about, I close this really quickly. And I select out my bank.
P35 - 15:06我圈选出河床。
I take my house, my selections are right here. And then I go down here to layer mask.
P35 - 15:12选择房子 图层蒙版。
And immediately it only captures this area that I was looking for.

P35 - 15:17只会捕捉目标区域。
So now I go here, to my front bank, I select this and with the selection, I can get rid of this house right here.
P35 - 15:25选择河床后,移除掉房子倒影。
So it's very unfortunate. But the reflection only captured this little white piece of my house,

P35 - 15:34倒影只会捕捉到房的部分。
which is not very good. It's not a good thing. I would much rather copy another portion of my house. So what I'm going to do is since I can't use this layer mask right here, I'm going to release it and move this down a little bit more.
P35 - 15:53房屋图层蒙版不能用丢弃,下移。
So that even though the reflection wouldn't be in this position, I really wanted to capture some of these wooden parts. So it feels like it's actually reflecting the house.
P35 - 16:04哪怕是木头部分倒影也要保留。
This I like this a lot better. I'll take it. I'll take this. So I want to make sure I get my snowbank in there.
P35 - 16:24此后恢复雪堆部分。
And I'm gonna do the exact same treatment by lowering the opacity, I can make it a little bit darker.
P35 - 16:30降低不饱和度,增暗。
So brightness, go down. There we go. Easy breezy.
P35 - 16:41调节明亮度。
Now we have this subtle reflection. You may think Airi, I really spend a lot of time just making that one reflection. Yes. Yes, I did. But the details are important.

P35 - 16:52细节决定成败。
now my piece is pretty much there. The last thing I'm going to add is a little bit of highlights, going into my Top layer.
P35 - 17:01高亮部分,顶部图层。
Let's go to overlay.
P35 - 17:15重叠模式。
Add another new layer, soft light. So I'm going to add a little bit of atmosphere. So it can take a really soft brush. we get really big.

P35 - 17:30新图层,柔光,软毛,刷入大气。
Just like that. It's kind of imitate a bit of the sun. I just noticed I have this here. That's not good. Well, that brings me to my next point, which is the paint over layer. So you can do one last Top layer, create clipping mask.
P35 - 17:46绘制重叠,新图层,剪切蒙版。
And you are now going to just paint on top and get rid of whatever tiny little details that bother you.

P35 - 17:56遮罩掉干扰你的细节。
So for example, one detail that really bothers me is this right here, this rock is being covered by something. So I'm going to ever so slightly brush it. Very cool.
P35 - 18:08干扰的比如岩石被什么覆盖。

we’re here at the very last stage, there's other stuff that I could honestly touch up the stuff that I want to touch up. But there's a lot more stuff that I really want to show you. Cool? So that we can do to this piece. So I'm going to leave it for here today. So I'm sure that you also want to see other really cool stuff that's coming up,

therefore, the first thing I'm gonna do is crop out these two images. I'm looking at my piece and these feel pretty similar. They feel pretty good. That means that I was able to emulate the film like look, can I take my crop tool, I'm gonna shimmy it down.

Perfect. No one ever knew those references ever existed. We delete it. And now we go to one of my favorite parts, the editing, selective color, go to my blacks and play around.

Because that's where it started. And now you're all the way here. That's insane.
