06 Lesson 1 - Values Part 6 - Homework
Okay, first things first. You're never gonna see the word homework in the title ever again. We're going to change it to practice and improvement. Because the idea of homework that just brings back really bad memories for everyone and trying to cram as much algebra to a head as possible or writing effort cue essays on analyzing shakespeare's hamlet for the 5th time. I am not preparing you for an SAT or a bar exam for law school here. Everyone has different lives and everyone has different goals. Some people want to pursue concept as a profession, but others just want to pursue it as a hobby or to just get better. My job is to teach you the exact methods on how to paint and improvement.
P6 - 00:56第二遍。

P6 - 01:33练习力度取决于你定的目标。
愿不愿意执行练习,取决于你自己,But whether or not you wish to implement this process. It's up to you.愿不愿意持续精湛技艺,也取决于你自己。 And whether or not you wish to improve upon it is also up to you, 人情况各不相同。because everyone's situation is different.
P6 - 01:45不同目的不同训练的建议。
你可以一遍遍观看芭蕾舞教练的训练,But at the very least, I will say this, you can watch a video of a master instructor teaching you on how to perform ballet. 看一百遍不如自己动手练一遍,But unless you yourself put on your ballet shoes and actually practice those moves.自己不亲自动手训练是无法进步的。 There is no way to actually get better.

P6 - 01:59艺术也是类似的道理。
Art is just like ballet.艺术是手指在键盘上的舞蹈。 It's a dance in your fingers, the way you control your hand. 身心合一,手指在键盘上弹奏出想象力,And the way you integrate your thoughts with your movement. That's all physical and you have to practice and get better. 除了拳不离手的训练别无他法。There is no way of stepping around it. 但是并不意味着你不去训练舞步就没有舒活筋骨。Just because you're not moving your whole body doesn't mean it's not a dance or like doing the splits.你需要训练思维,磨刀不误砍柴工。 You have to develop muscle memory.所以我鼓励你们尽可能多的训练和提升。 So I definitely encourage you to do as much practice and improvement as possible. So each week,
P6 - 02:22列举具体的数字。
i’ll give you the assignment. And the number is arbitrary. I will give you a recommendation, 尽可能多的去训练。but you should really do as many as you think is necessary. 比如定位专业级以此作为收入来源的自然多加练习,For example, if you're aiming to become a Top professional where your livelihood is going to depend on it, then you should do more. If your aim is to be a casual hobbyist. In that case, you can do less. 爱好取向的可以少训练一些。So with that, most of that beginning transition one more time.
P6 - 02:55训练和提升。
本周我们做个快速测验。 So for this week, I'm gonna start you off with a quick quiz.给你一个类似的截图。 I will show you a screen shot like so.告诉我该截图是局部值还是光影随行。 And then I want you to tell me if the image is primarily separated and local value or by a shadow value. 把彩色照片翻译成黑白灰三种色彩。And then I want you to paint it for me and only three colors black, white, and grey.

P6 - 03:22画出来体现了分析思维。
In the simplest possible way to demonstrate where you yourself see these value differences. 比如,这是《拯救大兵Ryan》里面的截图剧照。For example, in this screen shot from saving private Ryan, 如果我做黑白灰的翻版绘制。if I were to do a black and white painting,这是我的做法。 this is how I would approach it. 就这样。Just like so.作品标注局部阈值还是光影随行。 And then I want you to label whether or not its shadow you or local value.
P6 - 03:43本案例用光影随行。
In this particular case, for saving private Ryan, it would be considered shadow value, 因为主要是光影随行分水岭而不是局部阈值。because the black and white values are mainly separated in terms of where the shadow is not the local value. And we're going to do 10 of these.
P6 - 04:05举一反十。

And then a mid shade of grey and finally black, only the black isn't showing up because it's against a black background.

But here I'm using a super dark grey just to prove my point. 为什么是中度灰色,而不是超浅的或超暗的灰色呢?But I don't want you to use a super light grey or a super dark grey. I want you to use a very medium grey, 大概50%的中度灰色。only this one try to go for a 50% to really make it as simple for yourself as possible.

So you just want to make sure that you capture the exact same length as your original screen shot.

Now let's go and take a little closer look. All right. So I always start off, of course with my canvas. So as you can see, this one would be my canvas. 取决于你画布的背景。So depending on what value the background or most of the background is, that's where I would start. 本案例中我选择亮灰色。So in this case and scenario, the background is mostly this kind of light grey. 当然你可以按照自己想法中度灰色。Now obviously you can kind of argue that I could start off with grey, but this is what I look at.

I think about how am I going to separate this into my three values? 首先第一这是我的角色。The first thing I'm gonna look at is, well, first of all, obviously this is my character. 角色主体是一个阈值。And he's kind of like one value.头部和皮肤的高光色也是亮阈值。 And then he also has these little lights shining on his head and his skin.
P6 - 07:04明暗阈值的分水岭。
背景灰度和足下地面灰度不同。 I also see a really distinct value difference between the background here and also the ground. 雾霾上轻下浊也有不同阈值。So the mist and haze have different values. 对比看,地表层面,雾气背景比足上靴子更亮。And when I compare them together, this ground is lighter color than shoot that he has. 背景雾霾亮度比角色手里剑和身上高光点的阈值。And also it’s lighter than his sword and the lighter than pretty much like all of these areas here.

P6 - 07:48重点总结。
So essentially it would be one.我把笔刷调大。 I would change my brush over there. 第一黑色,第二雾霾色,第三地表色。So it would be one black over here, and then two the mist. And then three, kind of the shadow ground.

P6 - 08:14简单的区分方法?
最简单的方法是看一看空白。And the easiest way for me to usually differentiate is by looking at he lacks. 比如我们把黑色阈值轮廓圈出来。So I'm looking at the blacks here and then basically formed this mass kind like these.

And I ask myself, well, 这一大块是覆盖大部分头部和皮肤吗?this giant mass, does it spend over multiple things like jackets and skin?技术上应该是基于局部阈值, 不同材质不同的颜色。Because technically it was the local value based then the black should be different depending on what the article of clothing or if it's skin or whatever material it should be different.

But in this case.和材质没关系,和光源正对背对有关系。 It doesn’t matter what the material is, it just spent all over him, which means that this is clearly something formed by light. 明显光影随行的阈值,This shadow value is, well, obviously its shadow value. 意味着这应该被界定为阴影Chiaroscuro学术流派。So that means that this would be considered as Chiaroscuro or as we determined, is going to be shadow based values.
P6 - 09:14另一个学术流派。

So just a super gentle sweep. P6 - 10:34接下来微调。
So I was going to fine tune it by going on here doing.
P6 - 10:53现在有轮廓剪影了。
And now that we kind of have our general silhouette for this guy, 现在之填充阶段。now we can go in and actually fill out our black. 对此角色,确保我们捕捉到阴影阈值,So for this character, we want to make sure that we capture the shadow value. 用套索工具填充我看到的阴影阈值。So i'd like to again, use the lasso tool to just fill out whatever shadowed value I see.

That's really all you need to do. All right.
P6 - 12:17简单复盘下。
So super quick.简单交代下你需要做的训练。 Let's just recap what your assignment has been so far.第一是测验,你需要10份训练项目。 Number one is going to do the quiz. 我建议你自己10份,3个影视剧照2个绘画截图。So you have 10 pieces to do. And then I would recommend five of your own, do three movies and two paintings. So five of your own screen shots and paintings and do a study of them.

P6 - 12:42最后自己5张完善图谱。
Lastly, you should do five of your own personal pieces, and I want you to improve on them.而不是重复绘制黑白底图。 I don't want you to repaint the entire thing in black and white, 而是反复思考,如何改变黑白分水岭,让自己勾勒更具辨识度。but I just want you to look at your own piece and then think about if I could change it and make the black and white value more understandable. How would I do so? 这就是研究黑白阈值的方法。And then make that study in the black and white?不是重新绘制,微调的时间是快速的简单的。 It doesn't have to be like a repaint.
