Fabio Quartararo has voiced his concerns regarding the progress of Yamaha’s YZR-M1 on more than one occasion this season, citing its lack of top speed as a genuine concern. It’s been a tumultuous start to 2022 for the factory rider, with an against the odds wet weather P2 in Indonesia sandwiched between a P9 and P8 in Qatar and Argentine respectively, with the latter resulting in ‘El Diablo’ saying you can’t win titles with such performances.

However, that wasn’t the only thing of interest Quartararo discussed post-race in Argentina, with the number 20 failing to shut down rumours linking him with a switch to Honda.

"Honda's interest in me? I have to think about it," Quartararo told Antonio Boselli from Sky Sports Italia when posed with the question."I have to think about it carefully, my future is still not clear. It's a decision that takes time, but it's something to think about."

Could we really see the Frenchman on the RC213V in 2023? There are of course other manufacturers interested in the World Champion, as are his current side, who have already stated their desire to keep him within their ranks. What the future holds is anybody’s guess, and whether it’s a hard-bargaining negotiation tactic remains to be seen, but for the time being it is sure to add fuel to the flames that his future may lie away from the Iwata factory.
