巧用基数词，解决日常生活一大难题

1) 定语

You can't ride two horses at the same time 不能同时骑两匹马。

2) 主语

Two of the girls are from California. 这些女孩中,有两个来自加州。

Three will be enough. 三个就够了。

3)宾语或介词宾语

-How many workers do they employ? 他们雇用了多少工人?

-Over two hundred ，I think. 我想有两百多吧。

The city has a population of three million.这座城市有三百万人口。

4) 表语

He was a little over five. 他才五岁多一点。

5) 同位语

You two take these seats. 你们两人坐这里。

Have you got tickets for us three? 有我们三个人的票吗?

基数词还可用于复数形式,表示很大的数量

The boat cost hundreds of pounds. 这条船花了几百英镑。

Thousands of people attended the meeting. 数千人参加了这次会议。

Tens of thousands of people took part in the demonstration.数以万计的人加人示威游行。

Thousands upon thousands of scallops appear off Long Island in the fall秋天长岛附近的海滩上会出现数以万计的扇贝。

They arrived in twos and threes.他们三三两两地来了。

(三) 某些基数词的复数形式可以用在“in one’s/the~”结构中

1)表示年龄

She is an intelligent woman in her thirties.她三十多岁,是个聪明的女人。

She is in her early (late) twenties. 她现在二十一二(二十八九)岁。

2) 表示年代

The building was built in the 1820's. 那栋建筑物是在 19 世纪 20年代建的。

He was working abroad in the 1970’s.20 世纪 70 年代他在国外工作。

(四)用基数词表示顺序

在很多情况下我们可以用基数词表示编号:

编号的东西,常避免用序数词,读法也简单化:
