The aromatic gloxinia flower was first identified by Gloxin, an 18th century German botanist in the jungles of Brazil and Central America. To the discoverers who came upon this showy flower, and to the Victorians who immediately became enamored of it, the gloxinia signified “love at first sight”. When closed, the flower has a trumpet-like shape; when open, the five velvety petals form a bell. The tropical plant is drawn to warm, bright light. The gloxinia has also had a shamanic significance and embodies the “proud spirit”.
