图10是给Madeline的第一封信，引导信。

To: Madeline 致Madeline

Select Save and Quit from the pause menu at any time to take a break. You’ll resume from the same screen and you won’t lose any progress!

你可以在任何时候从中止菜单中选择保存并退出来休息一会儿。你会从同样的画面中重新继续，并且你不会丢失任何进度！

接下来是一段对话。Madeline和一个烤火的人。

烤火的人：

Ho there, fellow traveller! 好呀，一起旅行的人。

fellow是同伴的意思。

Madeline:

Oh...hi... 哦，你好。

烤火的人：

What a killer night for a hike! 对于徒步旅行来说，这是一个多么美妙的夜晚！

killer除了杀手，杀人者，还有令人激动的事物，导致死亡的事物，棘手的事物的意思。

Madeline:

I guess so. 我想是这样的。

烤火的人：

This place is so crazy. 这个地方太让人疯狂了。

I kind of can’t believe it exists! 我有些不敢相信它存在！

Madeline:

Not the easiest climb, is it? 不是最简单的攀登，对吧？

But I guess that’s what I was looking for... 但是我想，那正是我在寻找的...

烤火的人：

Whoa, that sounds pretty serious. 哇，那听起来很严肃。

I’m just happy to see another human in such a lonely place. 我只是很高兴在这么一个孤独的地方能见到另一个人。

I’m Theo by the way, an adventurer from a far off land!

顺便说一下，我是Theo，来自一片遥远大地的一名冒险家。

玩家终于知道了这个烤火的人叫Theo。

Madeline:

Theo:

Not much of a talker, are you? 你不太爱说话，是吗？

Mysterious lone wolf type, I get it. I’ll just imagine some dark backstory for you.

神秘的独狼类型，我知道了。我会为你想象一些黑暗的背景故事。

Madeline:

Hey, sorry. I’m Madeline. 嘿，抱歉。我是Madeline。

I’ve got a lot on my mind. 我脑子有很多东西。

Theo:

Well, Madeline, I’d say you’ve come to the right place!

好啊，Madeline，我会说你来到了正确的地方！

I’m freezing my toes off, but I can’t imagine a better place to be for some quiet reflection. 我的脚趾头正在冻掉，但是我无法想到一个更好的进行一些安静的沉思的地方。

这句话的意思是，Theo快冻死了，只能继续在这里烤火，而Madeline也不适合离开这里。

Madeline:

Yeah, maybe you’re right. 唉，也许你是对的。

What “far off land” do you hail from? 你从哪一个遥远的大地像冰雹一样来？

hail动词下冰雹，名词冰雹，像冰雹一样的事物。

Theo:

Well, my inquisitive compatriot, I doth hail from the mysterical, exotic kingdom of... Seattle.

哇，我好奇的同胞，我像冰雹一样来自于神秘的，异国风情的王国...西雅图。

inquisitive 好期待，爱钻研的。

compatriot 同胞。

doth是do的第三人称单数形式，过时用法。

exotic异国的，外来的。

这里Theo有心戏耍Madeline，已经说了compatriot同胞，还要说exotic异国的，最后答案揭晓，Seattle西雅图。

Madeline:

It sounds like a special place. 它听起来像是一个特别的地方。

Theo:

This place is wild. Why would an entire city be abandoned?这里很荒凉。为什么一整座城市被遗弃？

Madeline:

I read that some mega-corporation started building it, but then no one wanted to live here.

我听说一些特大公司开始建造它，但是没有人想要住在这里。

I wonder why... 我奇怪为什么...

Theo:

My money’s on a government cover-up. 我的钱被政府掩盖了。

Theo是不是想说纳税人的钱被浪费了。

Madeline:

What a waste, to build all of this for no reason... 多浪费啊，毫无缘由地建造这一切...

Theo:

At least we get to enjoy the leftovers. 至少我们可以享受残留的断壁残垣。

Madeline和Theo的对话还未完结，看得出，虽然前面Madeline和Old Ma’am聊的很不开心，但是Madeline和Theo聊的很开心，旅途中可能开始遇到的是让我们不开心的人，但总会遇到让自己开心的人和事。

Madeline:

Are you here to explore this city? 你是来种类探索这座城市的吗？

Theo:

Yeah, I have a thing for abandoned places. 是的，我对遗弃的地方很着迷。

have a thing for对...有点意思

And I like to think of myself as a budding photographer.

而且我喜欢把我自己想成一位暂露头角的摄影师。

bud是名词的芽，也是动词的发芽。

Madeline:

Oh really? Cool! 哦，是吗？酷！

Do you have a blog or something? 你有博客什么的吗？

Theo:

A blog? Madeline. Everyone use InstaPix now. 博客？Madeline。现在每个人在用InstaPix。

I’m TheoUnderStars, look me up! 我是TheoUnderStars(指Theo的InstaPix账号)，顺便关注我！

look sb up （顺便）拜访，探望

This terrain is pretty tricky, are you turning back soon? 这里的地形相当复杂，你要马上往回走了吗？

terrain地形，tricky棘手的，狡猾的

Madeline:

Nope. I’m heading for the summit. 不，我要向封顶行进！

Theo:
I can really see the determination in your eyes! 我真的能从你的眼中看到决心。

It’s inspiring. 振奋人心！

Madeline:

If you say so. I bet you could make it to the summit too. 既然你这么说，我赌你也一定能到达山顶。

Theo:

Maybe. I don’t really care about reaching the top, TBH.

也许吧。我并不是很关心到达山顶，老实说。

TBH是To Be Honest的简写。

Oh! But I heard there are some legit old ruins up beyond the city.哦，但是我听说城市上有一些合法的古老废墟。

Like 1800’s legit. 就像是19世纪的遗迹。

I know it’s risky but I have to see them for myself. 我知道很冒险，但我必须亲眼看到它们。

旅途中难得遇到知己，可惜大家前行的目的地并不一样。Madeline终究是一个人孤独地前往山顶。

What’s that thing you say right before you do something irresponsible?

Madeline:

Uh... “throw caution to the wind?” 额，把小心谨慎丢到风中了？

Theo:

No, that’s not it. 不，不是。

Oh right... 哦，好吧...

YOLO是You only live once的简写，鼓励人们及时行乐，享受生活。

图11是chapter 1的B-Side Unlocked。B面解锁。

在给Madeline的第一封信中，提到过pause menu。图12就是pause menu。PAUSED中止，注意中止不是终止。Resume恢复继续。Retry重试。Options选项。Save and Quit保存并退出。Restart Chapter重新开始章节。Return to Map返回地图。

如果选择Return to Map的话，会出现GIVE UP?放弃？Return to Map返回地图。Cancel取消。

This memorial dedicated to those who perished on the climb

这座纪念碑献给那些在攀登中遇难的人

Ugh, I’m exhausted.啊，我精疲力尽。

在寻找自我的过程中，攀登山顶的过程中，人会筋疲力尽，所以，要保存好体力，要有耐力，最后，要有恢复力，从筋疲力尽中恢复。

Madeline筋疲力尽，学着Theo生火。前面的鸟又出现了，朝Madeline叫，Madeline说出了预告片中的那句This might have been a mistake.这也许是一个错误。

Chapter 1的A-side过关时，会提示Chapter Complete章节结束。但可以选择玩B-side。
