寒露
Cold Dew is the 17th solar term of the year
是中国二十四节气第十七个
which is divided into 24 solar terms in China
由于日照减少
The dip in sunshine means
寒露气温比白露时更低
that temperatures are much lower than during White Dew
露珠遇冷寒的空气快要凝结成霜
The dew drops encounter cold air and
放出微微寒光
just before they are about to turn into frost
寒露
they seem to emit a certain cold light
之名由此得来
hence the name “cold dew”
寒露是一个反映气候变化特征的节气
Cold Dew is a solar term reflecting seasonal change
如果说“白露”是炎热向凉爽的过渡
If "White Dew" is a transition from hot to cool
“寒露”则是凉爽向寒冷的转折。
"Cold Dew" is one from cool to cold
由于气候渐冷
As the climate gets colder
风起叶落
the wind blows and the leaves fall
难免引起凄凉之感
it is hard to avoid a sense of desolation that creeps in
因此保持良好的心态不容忽视
Hence, it is important to maintain a positive attitude
这时候 人们可以通过一些有趣的活动来调整心情
People can try new experiences to lift their mood
寒露时节
During Cold Dew
北方已呈深秋景象
the North witnesses a late autumn scene
蓝天白云
with blue sky, white clouds
红叶漫山
and mountains covered with crimson leaves
人们往往有登高的习俗
People often trek to high altitudes
谓此为“辞青”
which is called “Ci Qing”, meaning “Autumn Outing”
与三月春游“踏青”之说法相对应
similar to “Ta Qing” which means “Spring Outing”
九九登高
During the Double Ninth Festival people have a tradition
还要吃花糕
of eating flower cake before embarking on their journey
因“糕”与“高”同音
This is because “cake” and “high” pronounced in Chinese are homonymous
吃花糕寓意
so eating flower cake would bestow the person
“步步高升”
with the blessing of “rising high”
寒露节气也是菊花盛开的季节
The Cold Dew is also the season when chrysanthemums bloom
和大多数春夏盛开的花不同
Unlike other flowers
菊花是反季节的花
chrysanthemum grows better
越是霜寒露重，越是开得艳丽
when there is more frost and heavy dew in the environment.
由于接近重阳节
Since the Double Ninth Festival falls around this time
某些地区还有饮“菊花酒”的习俗
there is another tradition of drinking chrysanthemum wine
秋日褪尽了酷暑气息
As the heat of autumn fades away
天地呈现一派崭新的光景
the world becomes fresher and more welcoming
成人可以带着孩子们走到户外中
People can take their children outdoors
感受自然的变化与美妙
so they can capture the beautiful scenery on their canvas or prose.
秋日不仅有好天气
Autumn brings not just good weather
还有大丰收
but also a bumper harvest
可以带着孩子一起去挖红薯
Parents can take their children to dig sweet potatoes
感受秋收的喜悦
and the family can experience the joy of autumn harvest together
回家后一起烤红薯
At home, they can bond over baking sweet potatoes
蒸红薯米饭 红薯饼都是不错的选择
steaming sweet potato rice and sweet potato cakes
可以让孩子体验到劳动快乐
Children can experience the joy of labor
品尝到自己的劳动果实
and taste the fruits of their own
外出游玩欢乐之余
But before you go out to have fun
还要记得俗语的提醒 “寒露脚不露”
remember the saying “cold dew, warm feet”
这就是告诫人们寒露时节应特别注重保暖
This is to warn people of keeping warm in the Cold Dew

袅袅凉风动 凄凄寒露零
Gentle breeze blowing, cold dew condenses
寒露已至 将入深秋
Cold Dew has arrived as the late autumn bids goodbye
