第九节 形容词用作定语时的移位

形容词用作定语时,位置不是固定的。例如,“a happy group of people

(一群快乐的人)”,也可以说“a group of happy people”;有时显然不是

修饰紧挨着的词,例如:“the architectual materialization of this concept

(这一设计理念的具体化)”,其中“architectual”应该修饰“concept”。

1. For a gathering of people from around the world, we laid out quite a surprising

spread of Chinese dishes.

我们为这群来自世界各地的人摆上了令人惊讶的中国菜。

2. The cabman blundered up and downstairs with trunks, and saluted Sophia's

haughty generosity, and then there was quietness.

车夫搬着行李跌跌撞撞地上楼下楼,并向索菲娅傲慢地慷慨致敬,然后一切

归于平静。

3. There was a surprising flash of violent emotion within him, as if in the presence of

something undreamt-of, dangerous, and final.
