Cheetah Conservation & Research Centre

Established in 1971 by Ann and originally known as the De Wildt Cheetah Research Centre, the name was changed in 2010, to the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre as a tribute to the woman who has devoted her life to the survival of cheetahs and other rare and endangered species.由 Ann 于 1971 年成立，原名为 De Wildt Cheetah 研究中心，2010 年更名为 Ann van Dyk Cheetah 中心，以纪念这位为猎豹和其他稀有动物及濒危物种的生存与献身的女性。

Two hour guided tours are offered daily, and on certain mornings guests have the option to book a cheetah run and guided tour package. The cheetah run offers an opportunity to witness a breath taking high speed cheetah chase. The Centre prides itself in its contribution to the conservation and survival of the cheetah species through meticulous breeding (ensuring genetic diversity) and the ability to release captive born cheetahs as and when suitable space becomes available. Just to keep thing in perspective, it costs us R50 000 per year for one Cheetah (food, health checks, medication, vet bills). We have 76 Cheetah, 28 Wild Dogs, 13 Vultures, 5 Meerkats, 1 Honey Badger, 2 Caracal, 1 Serval and 1 African wild cat. The Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre – De Wildt (Originally the De Wildt Cheetah Research Centre) was the first establishment in the world to breed captive cheetahs on a sustainable basis and was the firstCites approved cheetah breeding facility in the world.Ann van Dyk Cheetah Center – De Wildt（原 De Wildt Cheetah 研究中心）是世界上第一个以可持续方式饲养圈养猎豹的机构，也是世界上第一个获得 Cites 批准的猎豹饲养设施。

The aim of the Centre is to maintain a viable genetic pool of not only the cheetah but also the African wild dog (second most endangered carnivore in Africa), for release back into their natural habitat as and when space becomes available.该中心的目标是维持一个可行的基因库，不仅包括猎豹，还包括非洲野狗（非洲第二大濒危的食肉动物），以便在空间可用时将其释放回其自然栖息地。

Over the years various other endangered species have been bred at the Centre and these include African wild cat, Suni, Blue and Red Duiker, Riverine Rabbit, Vultures including the very rare Egyptian Vulture. Through their Wild Cheetah Management Programme, the facility successfully captured over sixty cheetahs that were considered “problem animals’ and relocated them into protected areas. Heathcliffe is a stunning King Cheetah, he was born in May 2009 and was hand raised.  He had to have part of his stomach removed when he was about a year old due to eating a chicken bone that splintered.

He absolutely loves attention, especially his enrichment time.  Heathcliffe is the largest cheetah we have on the farm, but in reality he is just a gentle giant with a massive heart.

Jules is our most adorable King Cheetah born in May 2015. She had a rough start when there was a rare strain of Parvovirus that broke out on the farm. Most of the cubs that year did not make it due to the parvovirus. Jules has an extraordinary sweet personality and it just takes one glance from her to melt your heart. She has joined the league of running cats here at the centre, and is running at impressive speeds that continue to make us proud every day.

Mime is a beautiful looking cheetah, and mesmerizes everyone she meets with her dark markings.  Her mother is a King Cheetah, which means that she carries the king gene.

Kiara was born at the centre on the 18 March.  Her mom, Mufasa, was a first time mom and with such a large litter, she and two of her brothers were very neglected so we had to intervene to save them.

She has grown into such a magnificent cheetah with an awesome personality and amazing speed and agility.

Yeats has been our off-site ambassador cheetah for a couple of years and has been instrumental in teaching many children all about our endangered animals and conservation.  We have recently retired him, so now he gets to laze around all day just doing what cats do best.

Zorro was born in a litter of 4 cheetah cubs.  We had to take him and his sister Pixie away from their mother as she was constantly carrying them around in her mouth and there was a worry that she would badly hurt them.

He is one of our running cheetahs and is such an amazing sight to see.
