In terms of high-school archetypes, she has clearly switched sides: instead of sticking up for "sk8er bois", Lavigne now lays into rivals, with no mercy. Her confidence is obnoxious but irresistible, whether chanting about periods on the punchy title track, or launching into Runaway's massive soft-rock chorus with gusto. Crammed with hooks, The Best Damn Thing is a triumphant comeback.
