imperative: the -u ending.

动词命令式:词尾-u

The -u ending is used when ordering / inviting someone else to do something -- or when telling or suggesting to ourselves what to do!

词尾-u用于命令/邀请某个人去做某事——或者告诉或建议我们自己做什么

imperative + infinitive

动词命令式+动词不定式

An imperative may be followed by an infinitive:

动词命令式后面可以跟着一个动词不定式

Bonvolu manĝi!

Please eat!

请吃吧!

(NOT: Bonvolu manĝu. Do not use two imperatives one after the other in that way).

(不要说Bonvolu manĝu。不要像这样用一个动词命令式跟在另一个动词命令式的后面)

questions with –u

带有动词命令式的疑问句

In questions, the -u ending generally means "shall" ; it can also be translated as"should":

在疑问句中,词尾-u通常意思是“shall(应;会;将;必须)”

Ĉu ni iru?

Shall we go?

Should we go?

我们要走吗?

Ĉu mi legu tiun libron?

Shall I read that book?

Should I read that book?

我将要看那本书吗?

the -u ending in subordinate phrases

 从句中的动词命令式

We also use the -u ending in subordinate phrases (clauses) starting with ke, when the verb in the preceding, main part of the sentence expresses a want, desire, demand or preference:

 我们也会使用带有动词命令式的从句,(这种从句)以ke为开头,一个动词句子开头,句子的主要部分来表达意愿,欲望,需求或者倾向
