第十节 英汉被动句与主动句结构之间的相互转换

在上册提到了英语中一些动词的主动形式可以表达被动含义，英语中一些形容词

结构也可以表达被动含义，还可以通过形容词的名词化或动词的“名物化”来表达

被动含义。这里再简单回顾一下。

1. The omniscient narrator is very characteristic of nineteenth century novel.

这位无所不知的作家最能体现十九世纪小说的特点。

可以转换成：The nineteenth century novel is characterized by the omniscient narrator.

2. The reason for not being utterly dismissive of this suggestion is that…

人们没有完全摈弃这个假设的原因是……

3. This letter is significative of her affection. 这封信是她的爱情表露。

4. A baby's cry can be expressive of hunger or pain.

婴儿啼哭可能表示饥饿或感觉不适。

5. All are representative of different versions of that narrative structure.
