题目解析12—How do you deal with free rider problem?

2. 一个小细节在于, 什么程度的问题算的上“free rider ”本质上也是在看面试同学的包容

程度,小商在面试的过程中,有听到同学对一些鸡毛蒜皮也在斤斤计较,建议同学们选

择一个 显而易见、影响较大的例子,再进一步展开自己的回答 

3. 尽量避免 用代工、自我牺牲作为核心对策,可以结合 沟通能力、领导能力进行回答 

4. 要表现出自己对于小组工作的驾轻就熟,体现出你是 一个真正的 teamworker 

建议结构: 

事情+原因+措施(可用具体例子)+结果(这是很重要的)

利用 STAR 法则讲述一件 free rider 的故事 

理论性地讨论一般会出现这一情况的原因 

The main three reasons: 

1.a lack of skill/2.interest/3.psychological safety on the team 

e.g.one person is dominating and doing too much 


PART2  措施 

以下是科学的措施参考: 

1. Make the task more meaningful. 

2. Show them what their peers are doing. 

3. Shrink the group. 

4. Assign unique responsibilities. 

5. Make individual inputs visible. 

6. Build a stronger relationship. 

7. If all else fails, ask for advice. 

PART3  结果

I usually deal with free rider problem by making teammate important 

As the minister of the Human Resources Team of the XXXXXX in my school, I’m responsible for recruiting new members for the club. But during the recruiting process, there was a member in our team who just didn’ t pull his weight. At first, his responsibility was to download CVs of the applicants from the mailbox and sort them out, which is essentially not a difficult task.  Still, he always missed the deadline and didn’ t finish his work but claimed most credits when we are reporting to the head of club. After getting complaints from my other teammates, I decided to talk with him and happen to find that his major concern is not feeling he is creating value and is doing dirty job. After discussion and coordinate with our head, we let him to be responsible for preparing the question pool of the interview. This task was obviously more challenging and more time-consuming, but surprisingly he finished the task with great satisfaction. People often slack off when they feel that the task doesn’ t matter , but when they recognize the importance of their efforts, they tend to work harder and smarter .
